Update - VUDU Nvidia Shield 4k Playback Issue

Nvidia has just posted the following update on their forum -

Update (9/20/2019): We root caused the issue and are currently testing the fix. We will start rolling it out on our hotfix thread as soon as possible.

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce...-hotfix-image/

We?ll continue to provide updates as we test and prepare the fix for general rollout.

Update - HotFix 4 was released by Nvidia today (you must be signed up to get the hotfixs, see Nvidia forums on how to sign up) which, among other things, addresses this issue. They have indicated that server side fixes are required as well which are taking place over the next several weeks. Not a complete fix yet but at least some progress.

After the 8.0.1 update which I though was suppose to fix the 4K issue on the Shield TV, VUDU now only supports SD on my Shield TV. It seems I no long have even support for HDX. Whats going on? Its been at least a month since it was broken.

The following was posted by Nvidia support on their forum yesterday. I don't know why VUDU support refuses to provide any updates at all for us here about what is obviously in their court now but whatever...

"Vudu is still working on the server/app update to bring 4k back to SHIELD, we don't have a committed date from them but they are working on it and hope to have it in the next 2 weeks. It's coming... They did drop a new app that falls back to 720p vs 1080p yesterday."

Yeah this entire ordeal has become ridiculous and I am blaming both parties. I should be able to watch the movies I pay a premium for in the quality I pay for in the device of my choosing, which i haven't been able to do for over one month now.

Finger pointing helps no customer Vudu. Nvidia Shield customers have been waiting for 4k to return.

Yeah this is just sad...HDX playback i was unhappy about but could live with but this latest update that drops it down to SD is ridiculous! And before today i could just uninstall the vudu app update on my shield that forced SD playback and disable updates and at least still watch HDX again until vudu forced a popup today saying that version is no longer supported and forces you to update to use the app at all now that only has SD and that ****es me off even worse. At least i had the option to use HDX with old version of vudu app and then you FORCE me to update so that it is broken worse then before great job!

Then they try and difuse it by saying " It's not that big of a issue when you can still cast 4k from your phone." Why should i have to run down my phone battery casting to a device that has vudu on it already.

What makes it worse is the complete lack of any updates from VUDU since 9/6. At this point the rest of the fix is entirely in VUDUs hands but they have provided no updates whatsoever. Sad!

Except FelipeF posted in the other Shield thread not three days ago:

If Nvidia has a DRM exploit, Vudu is very likely required by contract to downgrade to SD playback, lest it get sued by the studios for not upholding the security requirements in the licenses.

This will be re-enabled very soon (hopefully tomorrow, Monday at the latest). There will be an app update, so it should be obvious when it's done...

Except that according to Nvidia they have made all the changes required and that what we are all waiting for now is server side updates that are in VUDU?s court. Apparently the finger pointing between VUDU and Nvidia continues...sigh!

Thank you very much for the update! Really appreciate the effort to get all this resolved but honestly a bit more timely communication and transparency would have prevented a lot of user speculation and concern.
