I know the big concern for any business is sales / revenue. After all, no sales / revenue = no business!
However, a big part of that (sales / revenue) is from the satisfaction of your customer base, so they keep coming back, versus going to Amazon / iTunes or similar, instead.
VUDU has huge potential, particularly when it comes to their app and the option to download purchased (owned) content, mixed with free-to-watch content, current releases, sales and so forth.
However, from a customer point of view, VUDU is holding themselves back from being far more successful, in three areas...
(1) The Windows App does not allow you to download content to a location (drive) of your choice. Most computers these days have very little space on the main drive!
Also, you can't watch downloaded content unless you are connected on-line, which defeats the purpose of downloading it to start with!
Fix those 2 things, and you will be heads above any other service, for this alone!
(2) Next, what you offer plays into revenue (of course). However, VUDU has the very bad habit of offering things in an incomplete manner (a widespread problem).
You might be surprised how big Binge watching and "collecting" (owning) Movies / TV Shows is... and how it might contribute to revenue.
EXAMPLES:
* Missing Episodes (current examples, Hunting Atlantis Season 1 missing Episode 3; Expedition Unknown Season 9 missing Episode 2; Unexplained Season 1 on sale for $18.99 with no episodes whatsoever listed). Why would individual episodes not be included? They are elsewhere....
* Episodes are listed but greyed out (can't watch / buy) (example: Off the Map Season 1; Avengers (UK) Season 2 & 3; Ridiculousness Season 20...). Why would individual episodes not be available?
* Movie "franchises" do not always offer all the Sequels, or the Sequels can not be watched / purchased (examples: Neverending Story III is missing; Howling III to VI are free-to-watch but not purchasable...).
* Sometimes Sale Offerings are not for sale at all (recently, The Middle Season 5 and Larry the Cable Guy Health Inspector have been listed and labeled as sale items, but neither one has been purchasable, sale or not)... or they are listed at the wrong price (currently, Journey to Royal a WW II Rescue Mission is included in the Weekly $4.99 listings, but is priced at $6.99).
* Many Movies and TV Shows seem way overpriced. Example, Operation Dumbo Drop was just on sale for $4.99, but had been listed at $17.99 ($13 difference). TV Seasons are listed in excess of $30, and many times those same seasons will go on sale for $4.99 to $9.99 (a difference of $20+). I, for one, wait for the sale price, for this very reason. However, if the regular price were more reasonable, I might buy it to start with.
(3) Since the Fandango merger... things have gotten a really buggy.
In the past, you could Rate individual Episodes and bonus features. You can't do that anymore.
Many of the Movie and Season Bonus Features (bought and paid for) are no longer watchable (they will not play... "Failed to get playback information." -- example Flash Season 7, Episode 101 'Trailer').
Mysterious Episodes and Seasons have seemed to pop up, that probably don't exist to start with (example, Supernatural Season 99; Expedition X Season 1, Episode 8).
So -- the question is anyone actually working to fix these problems?
Any effort to offer complete TV / Movies sets (and all episodes)?
Any chance with Windows 11 coming out that the App can be updated to better accommodate the Customer (where to download and off-line viewing)?
