Both boxes can download most movies -- as you may have read, some licensing agreements prohibit downloading, but in my experience there are only a very few that do so. I believe I can download anything that I can download with Vudu2Go, but I'm not sure if that applies to rentals, as I haven't rented anything in a while. I can definitely download UV titles purchased elsewhere or redeemed via D2D, as those methods add the title to your Vudu collection in the same way purchasing does.

I don't know what an "XL HD" is, but I have the original Vudu STBs -- the BX100 and BX1000. They work great, they're very portable, they have lots of space, and they have the coolest remote! That said, on my last business trip I just downloaded movies via Vudu2Go onto my MacBook Pro that I would have had with me anyway for work and personal use, and the hotel had an HDMI-in port next to the desk, so I finally got to watch Zero Dark Thirty on my hotel TV...at no extra charge!

This sounds like a great idea for my hotel room. Need to know if it works for UV in HDX though. I have to believe someone on the forum still has one.

    Gonna give this a bump.

I'm also wondering if there is anything new out there for downloading? I see the Vudu XL HD Video Download Box is selling for $129. Will it download my ultraviolet movies on Vudu? How about a PS3?

I wish Roku would come out with a box that can download. Anybody know of any new ones? Thanks

I don't believe there are any more devices that allow you to download rentals, but i will try and confirm that.
Is the WD TV Live Hub able to download rented movies?

Anything new in 2012 that can actually download HDX files, for those of us that still have crappy HSI?

How about the XBOX360? I'd love to buy from VUDU, but I don't want to buy an additional device just to be able to download my owned movies.
Any plans, infos? (I really hope, the lack of HDMI on the GEN1 models isn't holding this back...)

Came in today, setup nicely and downloading Hangover II HDX with my credit to the HDD. Looks like itll take about 2.5 hours for the whole file, and it's about 7-8gigs.

Storage appears to be 55 hours or so of HDX, not bad.

Hopefully, with the advent of Ultraviolet, as far as I know VUDU is a member of the DECE, downloading will be one of it's features in the future as more devices become available...So stay tuned......I know a lot of people that would like VUDU based on seeing it on my system, but they need the download capability due to low bandwith and the existing devices that allow downloads they are not interested in......

Note the PS3 doesn't (currently) support bitstreaming DD+ (for apps - the BD player does, though). It will output audio as PCM 7.1/5.1/DD based on what you set in the PS3 audio settings. We hope that will change some day, but it will depend on Sony.

On the other hand, it is a blazing fast platform for VUDU (my preferred one at home, and I think I have about 6 devices that run VUDU now

I see the PS3 now has it, but no need for that in my case. I see Vudu and general Vod becoming more common, just because now Netflix will have 56 day waits and most likely increase pricing again. Also have to wonder what USPS changes do to mailing services.
Yeah, trust me, it is a great device, has a ton of different online services, some good, some not so....the video and audio specs are good, my VUDU streams never looked and sounded better....I even get better separation of channels in 5.1........IMO, blows the old VUDU box away....it has a small form factor, darn near disappears in my rack.....

You are also right in that other VOD/ Electronic Sell-Through services are coming on line, not with the visual and aural experience of VUDU, but are there nevertheless.....I've bought and downloaded a couple of movies from them, for now, they are ok, but the Universal studio catalog that is on VUDU to own, a number of them I would buy in a heartbeat if I could download......C'est la vie, I guess......

Well, buy em while you can. LG does not have a 2012 model with HDD, so the 690 is "another one bites the dust".
