My apologies. You are correct, I missed that portion of the post and was trying to be sure I hadn't lost my mind.

Way too many Vudu platforms with inconsistent features sets provided by Vudu so you never can tell for sure what services work on what device. It really would be nice it they did some sort of functionality normalization instead of all these proprietary deals where certain features on only available on hardware from certain manufacturers. It seems ridiculous at this point.

They are not playing in 4K on the AppleTV 4K within the Vudu app. I looked at another tonight and it was definitely not playing in 4K. It?s no different than my Sony Android TV. It too shows I own UHD, it only plays HD.

iTunes content plays in 4K without issue but Vudu content, in spite of purchasing the 4K title is only playing in HD.

Vudu UHD support is not currently active on the Apple TV 4k but hopefully will be soon.

My new Apple TV, Gen 5, will not play 4K or UHD within the current Vudu app. It appears that it plays 1080P. Additionally, the Vudu app only supports TVOS 10, not the Apple Tv's TV's 11.0.

I contacted VUDU Support to inquire about when the update would arrive but no one knew.

Hopefully it will be available sooner rather than later.

Re: Vudu on New Apple TV 4K?

I have apple 4k and roku ultra pretty ok imo.

In terms of video quality theres reall not a big difference. I used the same monster 4k cables, tv settings, soundbar settings, and vudu setting for both and the video on wonder woman, transformers dont really hit me as ?wow apple this is way better than the roku version I have?.

Sound- cant really say much on this I dont have a atmos soundbar, but both offer DD plus 7.1 again not a biggy or maybe my ears are just bias to roku vudu.

Loading time, skipping, or scene selection is a bit slower on roku but not by much if u dont pay attention. When I was skipping from Nemesis Prime to start of the movie it was instant on appletv for me but on roku same scenes I tested it was a bit slower on roku.

the interface is kinda a let down but not a complete hit and miss. I have a ipad/iphone and both pc and mac omputers, so am use to having to adjustto the video controls. though I kinda wish they had given u more GUI styles or have the play button in the middle of the screen, stop button top right or something but not too bad for now.

Overall not a bad start for apple this was my first apple tv and am perfectly fine using my roku ultra vudu still. Maybe for new guys or people that havent invested already in vudu or dont have hundreds of movies in UV go for apple vudu. In my case I had the extra money, had already iphone/ipad that I use alot for mobile watching, so it was a 100% buy.

Yes, it does show UHD if you own it. It’s at the top of a titles page with release date, run time, etc. And it’s a play only app like it’s iOS app has always been.

Keep in mind though that the Vudu app on ATV4K cannot yet play UHD.

All apps on ATV have to use the system’s built in progress bar. There’s nothing Vudu can do to override that.

Correction to what I said - ATV 4k supports EAC-3 which means it CAN carry Atmos, but it's definitely not explicitly stated that it currently does.

Worst case it could be added later like, as you say, the Xbox One S...
