Also keep in mind that the D* movie I watched was on the Directv on Demand, their PPV sat channels are compressed more and dont look as good to me. The Directv On Demand is an actual movie download, so the quality is better that the standard D* PPV channels.

D* 1080p vs Vudu HDX is a coin toss, both are great.
    I agree... Thanks.

I like to hammer Shultzy with Directv whenever I can. So guess where his sentiments lie.

Both are of quality to make me drop physical media, I just want a bigger push in getting the movies to us in HDX for rent.

The D* 1080p/24 movies took me right at about the same amount of time to download as HDX, so I believe its a very similar encode. Dish Network is also working on 1080p/24 VOD.

I'm too lazy to log all your posts how 1080p is just a format and not inidicitive of quality.

I'm not a Directv beta tester, but I'm reading between the lines of what he is saying to mean that Directv is increasing their bit-rate higher, just like VUDU did with HDX.

The movies you can rent from Directv are in 1080i, so I can't believe he is seeing a significant merely by providing the content 1080p.

Well, if you comparing regular D* VOD to Vudu, yes it is cheaper. Up to this point though, they havent been so great at adding every flick, plus their total offering isnt that great.

Now, if D* 1080p new releases are $5.99 and Vudu is $5.99, itll make it interesting. I'd still prefer Vudu because its in their best interest to do it the right way.

"Right now" I can go to Directv VOD and get an HD movie for $4.99. And I can go to VUDU and get an HD movie for $5.99. My calculator says "Directv cheaper".
