So, I've got a bit of a headache today...
So, I've used both Disc-to-Digital in-store @ Walmart stores (apparently only works @ Supercenters, not at regular neighborhood markets, since neighborhood markets don't have a proper "photo center," just a kiosk) & via VUDU2Go. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
But today I encountered kind of what I believe to be a big flaw in the dual system; The "linked" cart. This is VERY frustrating and needs some kind of a fix... It has caused issues before, too, in a different way.
Today's issue.
I have about $700+ worth of recognized discs in the VUDU2Go queue. More than I currently have credit card capacity for (I'm paying it down and will cave the capacity soon enough). So, I can't just "buy it all" at the moment. However, there are some big-name titles (Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy Blu-Ray, notably) that just don't recognize correctly via VUDU2Go, but which can be put on your in-store disc-to-digital list via the VUDU web site.
So, I did that and took my discs to the store to pay for JUST those big-name titles that VUDU2Go wouldn't recognize...
The problem: I get to the store, and the lady enters my credentials and say some thing to the effect of "wow you've already got like $700 worth of stuff in your cart & this will only let me take the stuff on your list & 'Add to Cart,' it won't let me run this list as its own transaction, do you want me to delete your entire cart and just run this transaction?"
HELL NO! Any idea how long it took me to recognize all those discs in VUDU 2 Go? So, instead I told her to "Add to Cart" and leave it at that. So, she did. The theory, which seems valid, is that it then added all those titles to my VUDU2Go cart (I can now see them in THAT cart at home after the 1/2 hr drive home; Wal-Mart supercenter is quite a ways away, since I'm perfectly located about 30 miles or so from each Supercenter in the metro area).
So, anyway, now I have 800+ items in my cart and none of them actually paid for on converted to UV yet. I had really hope dto get them all squared away today. At least those titles I was taking in to convert. Now I'll have to wait EVEN longer to convert them all.
This needs some kind of fixin'. It would, as I've mentioned before, be nice if the VUDU2Go app would allow you to selectively pick which "recognized" titles in your queue you want to actually "purchase" at a given time. That way, you could "recognize" your entire collection, and pay for it little by little.
Either that or the in-store system should use a separate cart than the VUDU2Go cart, so you can process the two separately without having to muck up one cart while trying to pay for the other.
If you see what I'm getting at here... Having the carts linked seems to create all kind of problems.
Another headache I ran into is that the VUDU2Go & in-store carts seem to be linked in a way that cause glitches and interfere with each other.
1) If you add a title to your in-store queue and then recognize it in VUDU2Go, and then try to delete it from your in-store queue, it says something about "could not delete, this item is tied to a physical purchase" or some such thing. You have to go into VUDU2Go, delete it there, then delete it in your in-store queue & then re-add it to your VUDU2Go cart.
2) Sometimes even when you do the step listed above and "delete" the item(s) from your in-store queue and add them to VUDU2Go, they don't actually get taken off your in-store list when you go to print it. That is, the icon doesn't show up on the thumbnail list on the VUDU website in the Disc-to-digital area, but when you go to print it still shows up there and no combination of adding/deleting from either the in-store queue or the VUDU2Go cart seems to expunge it from the in-store queue... There were a couple items I realized after the fact of adding them to the in-store queue that they could be recognized by VUDU2Go now and I could save them to pay for at a later date. But having added them to one or both somehow mucked up the system so I couldn't take them off the in-store list.
So, clearly there are yet some bugs in the system to work out. I hope these notes help you to track down the issues and fix them in some reasonable way or another.
Thx for listening. Overall, love the program and the app. Just needs some tweaking...
