The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies EXTENDED EDITION

I have been on the watch for any news concerning the early digital release date of this title, but so far have found only speculation.

If a simple 1yr+ is added to tDoS, we are looking at October.

    From My Purchase History

However, there is also some speculation that it may come as early as July.

Pls post if you hear of any updates. Exclude the Amazon.ca link. That is bogus.

I'm holding out for the inevitable mega Middle Earth Blu-ray boxed set where just maybe they'll actually port over all of theatrical extras. Man alive, is it a long wait !

Nov 3rd confirmed for physical release. A Fathom Event in early October of all three extended titles on three consecutive nights.

Early digital release still looking good for mid-October with MPAA rating bumped to "R" due to more violence in the extended cut.

Speaking of The Hobbit Extended Editions, does anyone notice you can't actually search for 'An Unexpected Journey'? It won't come up. I mean I already own it, but it's a good thing I do, cause if I hadn't purchased it yet, it would seem as if I can't.

I don't think it is for sale any more.

BTW, the Hobbit Trilogy Extended Editions Fathom Events confirmed for Oct 5th, 7th, 13th. Time is 7:30pm local time. Assumedly, the early digital release of BotFA will be shortly after.

Amzn currently lists Nov 17th as the release date for the Bluray. Maybe Nov 3rd for early digital release?

I see that. I wonder why it was pushed back. 11-3 was confirmed for the physical in-home release. Now it is 11-17. Go figure...

Probably because they are releasing it in select theatres October 13 as part of the 3 day Hobbit event. They probably wanted a solid month to pass to boost ticket sales.

My understanding was the 3 night event was a one time deal. I guess if they waited the month, people who are really rabid will go to the theater to see it so they can say "First" when it comes to watching the extended version. Me, I'll wait and watch it at home on my own "big" screen.

One theater in my area is going to be showing the Fathom trilogy. Sadly, I am one of the rabid ones.

Probably, I will see it on their B I G screen and then on my own little-big screen a few weeks later and there after.

Likely the last time Tolkien adaptions will be in movie theaters. The man was a literary force without equal and is credited with founding the genre of fantasy. Only other one who comes close IMHO is Jules Verne, who is credited with founding the genre of science fiction.

The extended edition doesn't seem to have the appendices with it. It has five short featurettes. I wrote in and was told the studio gives permissions for certain special features to be released. I wonder if it will be released when the DVD/Blu-Ray is released...? Or if I actually have to get the Blu-Ray to see the appendices.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies EXTENDED EDITION

                              thx for the feedback.

I started re-watching aUJ & tDoS to do a complete extended editions run though now that I have all three. These titles were not as critically supported as tLotR trilogy. However, it is without question good cinema.

The eloquent underpinning of Tolkein brought to the big screen through the best Hollywood has to offer for production support and technical craftsmanship makes the meandering story an enjoyable diversion. Extended editions meander more then the theatrical, but also have several scenes the crowds in the theaters did not get to see.

For instance, in aUJ the pivotal conference between Gandalf, Saruman, Elrond, & Galadriel in Rivendell is expanded and much more is passed along to the audience. Many other scene expansions make it worth investing in extended.

To quote the master, "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I for one, do not mind deciding to spend my time watching these three.
