MGM and Disney D2D, will they ever join?

    MGM and Disney D2D, will they ever join?

    As I search through the threads, I find posts dating back into 2008 asking the same question.
    I guess UV cannot work out a license agreement or something? I'd love to watch some favorites
    from My Vudu collection that may, sadly, never be in there without paying full price again.

    ..just to name a few. It's like MGM and Disney have gotten the money from us once. Now they
    want it again in full form through a Vudu purchase. I notice Lucas, Bruckheimer, and Touchstones
    are this way too. (but that's expected, lol)

    On other D2D title release notes, I'd like to see:

    Deep Rising
    Airheads
    Bowfinger
    Collateral
    Near Dark
    Unbreakable
    Virtuosity
    The Faculty

    Ultraviolet wasn't even announced until 2011. The first disc was released in October of that year. Vudu didn't even support UV until April 2012. I did a D2D conversion the first day it was available. Some studio's like Fox and Lionsgate didn't have their first UV release until the Fall. So UV is still a new format for a lot of people. It will take some more time to gain mass acceptance. I think other studio's such as MGM and Disney will join in eventually. If there were 30 or 40 million people using it, I think they both would start releasing UV titles. It's just a matter of time. I think in about a year we will be at the breaking point.

      I agree that it's a matter of time. Seeing the addition of two new UltraViolet retailers this year has helped. Disney is at least offering a digital copy of their Blu-rays that can be redeemed and streamed from Vudu. No, that's not the same as UltraViolet, but it also isn't iTunes.

      It's no longer just a Walmart thing! You can now go into that other retailer and see UltraViolet being advertised and used as part of their marketing strategy. I hope that we will see a couple more major retailers over the next few months adopt UltraViolet. Having more retailer participation will help, but having a more studio participation will also help. I hope we will continue to see smaller studios adopt UV over the next year. We also need a few more D2D titles from Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, and Universal.

      I don't know what it will take for MGM to be able to classify their older movies as UV and make them available for D2D, but for Disney it seems to me that they could do it if they would set aside their greediness.

      UltraViolet seems to be picking up steam.
