    Rental options for TV?

I am thrilled with the introduction of TV shows to Vudu! Which got me thinking about rentals and purchases again. I thought I would put this out there:

Does anyone feel that rental option for TV shows makes sense?

To me, the same argument holds as for movies, very rarely do I feel the need to "own" a TV show/movie. I will probably see most episodes only once. Thriller shows like "24" where the uncertainty of what is going to happen is the main draw fit the bill perfectly!

Do you think the studios will be reluctant to providing rental options for TV shows?

It will be interesting to know what others think...
    cheers,

Why would I want to pay $1.99 for TV show that I'm already paying on cable. I do not see the logic. Buy a DVR, its cheaper in the long run.

Pretty sure the thinking is for 'problem' episodes - those that were scheduled at an off time, or power outage, football game overtimes, and a myriad of other problems. Also, sometimes a new show catches interest after a few episodes and we all want to 'catch up'. That's where this would come to our rescue.

It's for those of us w/o cable (due to an addiction to TV ). I don't need to pay $50/mo for cable just to watch the 4 channels that I like.

Instead I get my TV from bittorrent (for Battlestar Galactica), netflix (for Mythbusters & Star Trek: Enterprise), and the broadcasters' websites such as nbc.com (for Heroes and Chuck).

Being able to rent (view once) TV episodes via Vudu ($1 per episode would be great) is a great solution for those of us w/o cable.

I'm not sure the TV content distributors are keen to that idea. Some shows have rented on cable VOD for more money than $1.99 just for rental.

iTunes has sorta pioneered the TV download market and set the $1.99 price. But with iTunes, you d/l an actual file and there is really no way to do rental. W/Vudu it's different as the Vudu can eliminate your rights to viewing the content pretty easily. It would be nice but we'll have to wait and see how the market develops...

You know, I do the exact same thing. When we had cable we'd still end up watching our favorite shows on the prime networks, so it just didn't make sense for us to spend several hundred dollars a year for all of the extras. When the kids get older it will make more sense, but not for now.

I like the current TV series format on Vudu except one aspect. iTunes has the series pass option, which I think Vudu might want to adopt also. Say like 25 for a full season instead of individual episose at .50 for first and 1.99 for each after

Oh, yeah, we've been asking for that. I would have already bought the full run of shows I haven't seen at all, like The Riches, The Shield, or Shark, if they were at a discount for a full season. But the more people who clamor for it, the better.

                    Clamor . . . clamor!

It'd be great to get season passes for shows . . . bring it on!

For sure, they need to add season passes (one-click purchase of entire season) as well as make "My TV" look like Explore TV (i.e. Show->Season->Episode 1, Ep. 2... instead of having all episodes in the main screen).

I couldn't agree more. Especially on the organization of "My TV"

I've purchased quite a few episodes of The Family Guy (starting from season 1 and working my way up) and it gets VERY difficult to navigate through the list of TV shows b/c they are out of order.

On the plus side - a very nice feature is the ability to go to the next episode in the series from the detailed info page. I love it when I finish watching one show and I can simply hit "next episode" and it takes me directly to the next one in the series. Pretty sweet (or "freakin' sweet" in Family Guy lingo).

That is something that should be fixed, but until they fix it, you could browse all TV shows, browse the show you own, and find the episode you own that you'd like to watch, and click "Watch Now" from there, instead of "My TV". Yes, it defeats the purpose of "My TV", but it might make life easier for now.

Well on Itunes you can at least burn the TV Shows to a Disk to Archive them, they make less sense on Vudu, as do movie purchases, when your dealing with a Finite aount of storage space. I'd love to see a .99 rental option as well.

AFAIK, all TV episodes can be archived in the Vudu cloud, so they really have no true impact on your storage capacity. Just archive them, and then when you want to watch again they'll stream back to your box.
