    HDMI-switching preamp only (not receiver)

    Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone might have come across anything like this on the market. Or possibly heard of something in the works?

I'm currently using a Rotel RSP-1066 and would like to upgrade to a home theater preamp that can actually switch HDMI. The Rotel can't even switch high-bandwidth component video (480p tops) if you can believe that... But I guess it is getting pretty old now...

All I've been able to find are receivers, though (preamp + amplifier). But I've already got a perfectly good amplifier that I wouldn't want to put to waste.

    Thanks!

    Heres a few:

Belkin PureAV AV24502 3X1 can be had for about $100

Terk HDMI-31 3X1 can be had for about $60

NXG NX-HDMI41R 4X1 can be had for about $120

(prices found via Google search on above part numbers)

All claim support for up to 1080P.

Ah, well, I was looking to upgrade my preamp, basically. This is what I have currently:

That's a bit of a challenge. If you don't already have at least 1 HDMI port in you current setup, those budget switchers won't buy you anything. I've seen plenty of HDMI Reciever/Amps nothing like the device you're imagining.

You could do something like the Joytech HDMI switch: http://www.buy.com/prod/joytech-tri-...204972580.html

This switch is fairly low cost, handles up to 1080p and has a remote control. The switch can be powered by USB. Guess what, since the Vudu has a USB port, you can use it to power the HDMI switch! This is what I use and it works well.

It's not a preamp w/HDMI but it does do the switching...

I think Rotel recently announced or came out with an HDMI switching preamp. Also there is the Integra 9.8 which has HDMI switching along with all of the other bells and whistles of the latest crop of receivers.

If you got an extra $10k, get a Lexicon MC-12HD, Does HDMI 1.3 switching and also is probably the best pre-amp you can get for the price range.

If you want just an HDMI switcher, look at Radiient.

I'd look at the ONKYO THNR905 Receiver.

It is not a Pre/Pro, but just as good and you get amps with it.

It has 1.3a switching. List is $1995

I purchased a couple for clients, who were very pleased.

Sell the amps, and use the onboard, or biamp the front speakers.

Or you can wait until someone builds a Pre/pro with the same switching feature, which may be some time.

                Onkyo TX-NR905

THX? Ultra2 home theater receiver with HDMI switching and upconversion

Or the "box" as mentioned earlier might also be a good idea and OPPO has the best one for the price.

                $99

The Integra DTC 9.8 is basically the equivalent of the Onkyo 905 but is a preamp and a few hundred dollars less. There is also an Onkyo Pro version of it SC 855, I believe, that is the same as the Integra but just sold through different channels. I was in the same position as you and settled on the Integra after a lot of research. The main selling point is that it offers upscaling to 1080p for every video input over HDMI.

I Called Lexicon, McIntosh and Outlaw Audio.

Lexicon and McIntosh both stated that they have no plans to incorporate the HDMI 1.3 into their units.

Outlaw said that they would probably have it by the second quarter!

The issue is that with HDMI versions still being very much in flux (even 1.3) most of the very high end companies will not implement it until it is rock solid.

As you can imagine the customers who can afford such devices will return it instantly if something does not just work and so you can understand why they wait until the technology has settled

Ideally youd have an A/V reciever that you connect all sources to, video and audio, and let the reciever do all the switching. Mine decodes well but doesnt have enough inputs to do video switching for me.

You could always go for the 3K Denon with 8 or so HDMI inputs.
