The Fandango at Home Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango at Home experience. Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     HDMI Resolution

    When I switch my TV from source to source, the banner (on the top of the TV) displays the input source resolution and aspect ratio. While I get resolution information from my other sources (Dish Network and XBOX 360), I do not get the resolution information when I switch to Vudu. Is this a known issue?

    That's something displayed by the TV. I don't think the Vudu has anything to do with that.

      Yes, I realize that this is "something displayed by the TV", but the TV needs to know what to display. It appears that this information is not being passed from Vudu to the TV.

      I have tried both 1080i and 1080p Resolution setting (on Vudu)...

        Again, the TV knows the display resolution that it is synched at. This information should not need to come from the Vudu.

            Seems funny that resolution/aspect ratio is dispalyed in the banner for other devices and not Vudu. Could this have something to do with the supplied HDMI cable? I have Monster HDMI cables on the other devices. I may swap a cable tonight or wait for my monoprice cable(s) to arrive tomorrow.

            I tried with Vudu sitting at the top menu and also playing a HD movie...

              I have a Sharp Aquos and with my TV you can set up different display options for each physical input. So you might take a closer look at your menu settings or maybe try swapping to an hdmi input that you know displays the banner properly.

              Never owned a Sony, so these are just thoughts on my part.

                Thnaks for the idea(s). I first try connecting the Vudu to another HDMI input and then swap out the cable...

                  Once you set a display resolution and aspect ratio on our box, it does not change. Unless you change it yourself.

                  The other devices display contents at varying resolution, so I can see a need to display it each time you change channel.

                  I have the KDL 46XBR4, exact same as yours just smaller size. I can get the current resolution setting of the TV by pressing the Display key on the remote control. Will that work for you?

                    Hey, that (Display key) works. I see 16:9 1080/24p. Wonder why this doesn't get displayed when I switch to Vudu from another source. My other sources are 1080p (XBOX 360) and 1080i (Dish Network VIP622). Both display the aspect ratio/resolution when I switch to them. It's acts like the TV can't figure out the Vudu resolution before the banner times out.

                    I tried swapping HDMI cable and HDMI Input but still get the same results (aspect ratio/resolution not displayed).

                    Oh well, I guess this will just be one of those mysteries in life...

                      Just out of curiosity, what happens when you have the tv input set to the Vudu box and you then turn the Vudu box off then on again?

                        What is probably happening is that when you set the TV to the HDMI input the Vudu is on, there's a certain amount of handshaking and authorization that takes place. Then the display has to synch and Vudu has to start outputting video. It is likely that this process takes longer than the timeout for the TV to display that info.

                          Same issue. I tried this with my satellite receiver and the TV displayed the information (aspect ratio/resolution) when I turned the receiver off and then on...

                            The question in my mind is why are all the other devices causing your TV to show that irritating nag message? It sure would be nice if they all played nicely with your TV like the Vudu does and not show you something you really don't need to see every time you change inputs.

                              One of the main differences is that we always enable HDCP. Your Sat. Receiver typically only does this on protected content. That is the best explanation I have. It is really up to the TV to display the current format. Has nothing to do with the connected source.
