Adam, where do I go for VIZIO information on when I can get a firmware fix. I also have the same optical output problem with VUDU content (no Dolby 5.1)

      @jackr

As far as i know they still do not have a release date for new firmware. I would try contacting them here: http://www.vizio.com/support/

I'm having the same digital audio issue with my LG 60PX950 plasma. I have the TV connected to my Onkyo receiver via the optical digital output, and it's only sending the 2.0 signal, not any flavor of Dolby Digital. I have to believe that the HDX version of Inception, which was the first movie I viewed on Vudu a few days ago, should have played in Dolby Digital 5.1, but it didn't. Very annoying, since the picture quality is awesome.

Please check the setting on your LG TV for the digital audio output. You can set it to either 2 channel PCM (the default) or Dolby Digital output.

Re: Problem with LG Netcast TV and Vudu audio output/format...?

Hi Hagen - I don't have any settings available for the digital audio output on my TV (60PX950). The audio options are limited to turning the TV speakers on and off (which I tried, but the setting didn't affect the optical output), bass/treble, ClearVoice, and a couple of others unrelated.

            Any other thoughts?

            Thanks,

            Mike

              Hi Mike,
You are correct. I guess I should have double checked this first, I'm more used to their BD players then the TVs.
The LG TV (2009 model Plasma) that we are using in our demo room outputs Dolby Digital when we turn the built in speakers off through the menu. Can you please try that again?
              Hagen.

Hagen - sure - I'll try it again. Are there any trailers streamed in Dolby Digital 5.1 so I don't have to pay for a movie just to troubleshoot the sound?

                Thanks,

                Mike

Re: Problem with LG Netcast TV and Vudu audio output/format...?

Most of the new trailers are in stereo only. I'm trying to get a list of trailers that are 5.1
But you can also use the 2 minutes free preview on regular titles to test if you get 5.1 output. The free preview has the same audio format as the movie.
                  Hagen.

"Beastly: Teaser Trailer" should have 5.1 audio.

Hi Hagen - no luck. Beastly teaser trailer was still being output in 2-channel, despite my turning off TV's speaker. Can you confirm that my particular LG TV (60PX950) is able to output Vudu in Dolby Digital? If it can't, I'll sadly be less likely to use Vudu versus HD cable on-demand or Blu-Ray.

                      Thanks again,

                      Mike

Hello Mike can you please also try a free preview of a movie that is guaranteed to have 5.1 (you can find that information in the movie details page).
                        Thanks,

One more question for you Mike, does your receiver indicate Dolby Digital or PCM when you disable the TVs speakers through its audio settings?
                          Thanks,
                          Hagen.

Hi Hagen - my receiver indicates PCM when connected to the TV optical output when I disable my TV speakers (and also when I don't).

How do I watch a free preview of a movie? It looks like I have to click through and rent a movie in order to watch anything other than a trailer.

                            Thanks again,

                            Mike

You have the option of a free preview after selecting the rent/own button. That free preview lets you watch the first two minutes of a movie without paying for it.
I also forwarded your problem to our QA team and they will verify it on the TVs that we have.

Hagen - on my TV I don't see any option of a free preview after I select the rent/own button. Please let me know what the QA team says re my TV.
