SUMMARY:
I am an ex Vudu Retailer. We have seen an issue with a Vudu XL where the entire picture has a purple hue to it. This started after the new software upgrade. The issue has been sent to Vudu support, but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen the issue and also document it in case someone else does and comes here for answers.
DETAILS:
The Vudu XL is one of 8 inputs on a DTrovision PureLink HDMI HX-8800 PRO Matrix Switcher. All 7 other inputs work fine. The problem is on all 8 monitors/TVs which are various brands (Runco, Pioneer Elite, Pioneer, Panasonic & Samsung).
The Vudu works fine when plugged directly into any of the 3 TVs we tested, so, it is an issue with the whole house distribution system that has been working fine for over 1 1/2 years.
I recalled the same issue from late 2007 that was a color space issue on certain brand TVs. That was fixed by a Vudu update. Knowing this, our suspicion was that Vudu has changed something in the color space tables or configuration.
We called to discuss this with DTrovision to see if they had a solution. As soon as we mentioned a purple hue, they immediately started asking about the color space settings on the device (to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any in the Vudu menus). BTW, they had never heard of Vudu and this was before we had mentioned the a few years back Vudu had a similar problem that was fixed by a SW change. So, this seems to be a known HDMI symptom. We then asked if we could alter the settings manually on a single input on their end. We can't.
Before calling Vudu, I had my techs take a loaner Vudu that we have to the site. It stays in a travel case and hasn't been used since Walmart purchased Vudu. It was on the older SW. I had them install it w/o an Internet connection so it would stay on the older SW. It worked fine!
I then had them plug in the Internet and let it do the SW upgrade......it is now purple....narrowed down to a Vudu issue. Called Vudu and let them know and they are working on it. Keeping our fingers crossed!
