NOT GETTING SOUND IF TITLE IS IN DD+

have no sound when a movie is in DD+ I'm using the LG BD550.

I do have sound if it's plain DD 5.1 -- and my Onkyo 606 matrixes it to 7.1
I also have sound on Dolby 2.0, but when a movie is DD+ , it's like a silent movie. Zip. Nada. Help!

LG has confirmed the issue and is working on a fix. We will let you know when we have a date for a firmware update. The issue has highest priority and they will publish the update as soon as they have verified the fix.

That's really disappointing. I found a kludgy workaround. If the title is in DD+, I have to go into the LG setup menu and change HDMI passthrough to PCM to get sound.

Lost business for VUDU from me since I have a FP and HDX is great looking on my big screen.

Is there any update as to when this issue will be resolved by LG?

Last response we got was hopefully by the end of this week.

Please also ask their customer care.

I have been chatting with LG support and they suggested this was not a "software update problem", rather a settings problem. They said I needed to change my settings from Primary Pass Through to PCM Multi-channel. What gives?

This will be a valid workaround if you are using HDMI for your audio (and is mentioned further down in this thread as well). If you use SPDIF outputs (optical or coax) you will only get stereo.
              Did it work for you?

Yes, it appears to have worked. Will there be a software update in the future to correct this so I can go back to Primary Pass Through?

I too am having the same problem using a LG BD590 on a Denon receiver using optical. Any word on a fix from LG? It's been about a month I hope they didn't forget about this issue

Re: NOT GETTING SOUND IF TITLE IS IN DD+

This issue is not related to just the LG Blu-Ray players. Vudu says the problem is LG, LG says the problem is Vudu. Unsatisfied with the level of support that I was receiving I went out and bought 4 new dvd players all from different manufactures. I set them up 3 different ways HDMI output to TV with Coax to receiver, HDMI output to receiver and then to the TV, and HDMI output to the TV and toslink to the receiver. Guess what . . . still no dolby digitial. Every single player only output a PCM audio signal. Don't let these Vudu tech reps foll you any longer. The issue is clearly on the VUDU side and not related to your player. Oh and just in case your wondering, all players played the Dolby Digital or DTS signal when a blu-ray disc was playing so yes my setup is correct. I have continuously reached out to VUDU tech support on this and no one can come up with an answer except for the standard " you must have something set up properly". I ensure you you VUDU tech people. I have everything setup properly. Please acknowledge that you are having an issue when your streaming service and that the regular dolby digital 5.1 codecs are not downloading to any player regardless of the manufacturer and you have no idea why?

Re: NOT GETTING SOUND IF TITLE IS IN DD+

                        BrianDaniel,
the issue is with dolby digital PLUS. I am pretty sure if you pick a VUDU movie with dolby digital (no plus) you will get proper dolby digital output through your setups.

The issue with the LG player (which is supposed to be fixed now) is the Dolby Digital Plus to Dolby Digital conversion. This conversion is not done by our VUDU drivers. We have no control over this conversion procedure. If your receivers indicate that they cannot receive dolby digital plus then LG has the option to either convert to Dolby Digital or PCM. On HDMI this should be 6 channel PCM for surround sound. In this case you would get the full surround sound experience. On Coax you can only get 2 channel PCM, so we require LG to convert to Dolby Digital, which they should be doing with their latest release.

VolkerS, you mentioned that the LG Players are fixed now, As of today there still is no update. As far as Dolby Digital working on movies that have regular Dolby Digital, I don't get it at all (I used too) I only get PCM Stereo, and I get it only when I force my player in the setup menu.

                            Gregs4163,
what firmware software version do you have? I will check with LG and our QA which version is supposed to have this fix.
