    Re: Reoccuring popping noise?

I'm sorry I didn't record the exact time stamp. The one I remember the best was when they were arriving to the RV camp the first night but I'm not 100% sure. I saw your message after my rental had expired so I can't go back and check now.

If you tested the previous timestamp I gave for the other movie and it wasn't reproducible I bet it would do the same this time.

I can't think of anything on my end that could be causing this problem, perhaps it's model and not brand specific?

    It's happened with multiple movies.
It's happened with multiple TV's though both were the same model.
It happened with both DSL and cable internet providers (both tested capable of HDX).
It happened with both internal and external speakers.
It only occurs with Vudu. Games, Amazon, Netflix, cable, etc. all work fine.
It hasn't happened with every Vudu movie, it's been about half I've rented.
The time I did tests it happened in HDX and HD but not SD.
The time I tested it was reproducible to an exact timestamp.

If I do rent another movie and it happens I'll try to test and provide a timestamp. Thanks for looking into it at least. That's too bad seemingly nothing can be done to fix this issue. I guess I'll have to use Amazon's built in streaming service instead.

I am having this same issue every time I try to watch Harry Potter 7 part 2. I get a weird static popping noise that drowns out the regular audio.

What device are you using to stream (make and model)? What definition are you streaming? What does your audio setup look like?

55" vizio smart tv. Model name E550i_A0. I am using the tv speakers only. The static popping noise occurs throughout the movie in HDX and SD. It seems to be worse in very quiet moments of the movie but will override the voices and other sounds in the movie when they occur. I watched other movies without the problem occurring. I have experienced this problem in the past and believe it was the same movie then as well.

            Re: Reoccuring popping noise?

As someone who builds and installs home theaters this issue can occur at any given time and may have nothing to do with Vudu, Netflix or just watching TV. You stated it happens during explosions which helps me narrow down the culprit. First check your speaker connects on the back of the receiver or amplifier to ensure no stray speaker wire is touching (I.e positive stray wire touching the negative connection) this would create popping (especially during loud scenes). Also check the back of the speaker for stray speaker wire strands touching also. Make sure your not connecting two speakers to one speaker connection doing this decreases the ohm load from say 8ohms to 4ohms and some receivers can't handle lesser ohm loads as it causes the receiver amp to work twice as hard. A lot of cheaper receivers can't handle a 4ohm load. Finally have your receiver checked out. If the amplifier section is failing you will hear pops or distortion (I just had one of my outboard amps replaced due to failing).

Vudu is just passing a digital signal nothing more when you tell me your speakers are popping this tells me it's a equipment failure. I've seen it more times than I can count. Oh and also don't splice speaker wire together this causes issues also. If you can use one single wire from receiver to speaker and use banana plugs if possible to lessen the risk of stray speaker strands touching each other (again a negative touching a positive and vice versa). Over time speaker wire can loosen itself from its connection and touch other wire give you a popping sound and especially during explosions when the resistance on the speaker wire is greatest.

              Hi HD,

Any chance you could grab me a few bits of information?

In Vudu under the Settings tab, go to device information and grab the Device ID and Client version. Then, go into your Vizio settings and then system information and grab the firmware version currently running on your TV. Thanks, let me know if you have any questions.

                Re: Reoccuring popping noise?

I've been having the same issue for a while now.

HOWEVER, last I checked Vudu said this was a Roku Ultra firmware issue with Vudu. Even though it doesn't happen with any other streaming content provider.

Sounds like this is a Vudu issue actually then ?

The Roku issue is unrelated to this thread, and is a Roku firmware issue: https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=98931

                    Understood.

Is there a reason that the Roku issue only seems to happen with Vudu on (my) Ultra ?

Sorry, can't say for sure, but guesses would be different streaming services using AAC/DD/DD+, 2.0 vs 5.1, etc (most of VUDU content is DD+ 5.1 with some 2.0). Also, it's most likely more complicated, ie. only HDMI output to certain receivers/TVs - most customers don't have this problem with the Roku Ultra or other players...

                            Can you provide:

                            - device model you are using to play
                            - if it's a streaming box/Roku/etc, what it is plugged into (receiver/TV model)
                            - version watching (HDX, UHD, etc)
                            - if it's reproducible, an approximate time range of one of the examples of the problem you are hearing

If we can get that, we will take a look.

This is still happening on my account. Using various methods but still pops. One huge example is when harry is at the train station but happens throughout.
