Sony Blu Ray Player- no audio during full length movies

I have a Sony player hooked up to a Philips HDTV with an HDMI cable. The trailers' audio comes through perfectly, but no audio on full length movies. I just spent $5 on a video I can't play. I've tried to plug in analog audio (red/white) and that didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same symptom, except I have no sound from from VUDU, trailers or preview, video is fine, whereas Netflix and everything else tested fine.

I have the Sony Blue Ray player BDP-S580 connected to a Phillips 47 inch 1080P HDTV using a HDMI cable. My firmware version is M07.R.0579 and contrary to the advice on Sony's support website, it says no need to upgrade, I upgraded anyway to M07.R.624 and my problem went away.

I also have the BDP-S580 and had a similar problem as you guys this evening. I rented the daily .99 cent flick and went to watch it and nothing but a black screen with sound. Then about 10 seconds into the film the sound disappeared as well. Then all the sudden it was the end of the movie all inside 30 seconds. Weird. . Having the same exact BD player in my bedroom I check it and the movie played fine. So I began troubleshooting the one in my living room being the tech nerd that I am. Currently up to date (M07.R.0624) I tried this & that and then the very thing I always recommend people do at the start, unplugging any device for about 3 minutes to clear the memory worked. Why didn't I listen to my own advice lol. Hope this helps

We have the BDP-S185 and get perfect sound/picture on netflix/Hulu/discs.. but just a picture on Vudu.. we did get a trailer to play sound on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, we tried unplugging the unit for several minutes. We were able to get the 'free' movies to play sound, but not our purchased content. very unhappy (so are the kids)

          Kandisue74,

Please start a support ticket with us. We should be able to help you get up and running. Is Hotel Transylvania the movie you're having issues with?

I have a Sony S580 also but no problems with VUDU. I upgraded to current firmware back in Aug 2012. The only problem I am having with S580 is CinemaNow - my UV library will not load. What do you other Sony owners get from CinemaNow. Thanks.

It was Hotel Transylvania and a couple of other when I played with it later.. I had a ticket open, and got my response All is working now - for those with the same issue here is a fix if support is closed when you are trying to watch something

Please exit VUDU and go in to the main settings options. Select the Audio Settings option. Under Audio settings there will be an option that says HDMI. Change this from Auto to PCM. Then go back to VUDU and try the movie again. If you are still experiencing audio issues, please turn off the Sony Blu-ray Player and unplug it from the wall for at least 45 seconds.

Thank you for the fast response!!!

I was having the same issue. I downloaded VUDU onto my firestick only to have the same issue! I much rather prefer to play VUDU via my bluray player, so thank you rdraper29 for the solution!

We do not support Amazon Fire devices.
