    Re: Purple screen using HDMI

    Welcome to the Vudu forum!

I would try the following (in order of difficulty):

    1) Try a different HDMI cable (swapping HDMI cables with another 'known to be working cable' is best).

    2) Try connecting to a different HDMI input on your TV (if it has one).

    3) Temporarily bypass any HDMI switching devices between your Vudu and connect directly to the TV to see if that is the source of the problem.

Post your results here, along with your system ID number (looks like 0x1a2b). Be sure to tell us everything you can about how you have things connected, and what other things (especially HDMI) are working.

Also let us know what kind of display device you use. We have seen problems with some projectors in the past that showed similar problems.

If the problem is sporadic, changing inputs on your display then changing back to VUDU may correct it.

If the problem occurs 100% of the time, look for a setting on your display for "Color Mode" or something similar.

The reason this happens is your display wants one color mode and the VUDU is sending it another. DVI only supported RGB mode where HDMI supports RGB or YPbPr. When you get a magenta or green screen, there is a miscommunication over HDMI or incorrect setting on your display for that input.

Dig through the video settings menus of your display or video processor, look for anything that allows you to toggle between RGB and YPbPr.

I am having the same problem directly connected to HDMI inputs on my Optoma HD80. I have tried:

          1. New box.
          2. New Cable.
          3. Different input.
          4. Changing Color Space on the projector.
          5. Check projector HDMI inputs with other devices, (Cable Box, X-Box, etc.)

I can't get to HDMI Settings in Advanced settings on my Vudu box, even though it says I should have access to these settings. When projector is on RGB I get a purple tinged screen, When on YPbPr I get Green Background and tinge.

Support was not able to solve my problem and said they needed to get engineering involved! Is there anyone out there that has had any luck with this and an Optoma HD80? Seems like it should work with such a popular branded projector, doesn't it? HDMI is such a horrible "standard".

Thank you for the explanation. I am going to look for the "color setting mode" cause it looks like the display vs VUDU color conflict as you described.
