HDX audio dropping in Vudu to go

Bought the Star Trek Into Darkness Wally World pre order and quickly determined that my DSL will not support streaming video at all, so I spent about 15 hours or so downloading the HDX copy to my laptop with the Vudu to go application. Now I have the download complete, but the video quality flops between good HD quality and SD quality and the audio is just really choppy. Audio is always synced up to video, but it drops in and out and tends to be staticy.

I disabled AV realtime scanning and it made a difference, but it didn't resolve the situation.

Laptop is a Lenovo N585, its a budget laptop but its running Win 8 x64, has 4GB of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 7310 video card. Youtube videos play fine in HD once they're buffered so I'm not all that confident this is a hardware shortcoming.

Adobe AIR auto installed with Vudu to go, so I assume that is not the culprit, Flash is embedded in the browser and shouldn't be playing a role in the downloaded copy anyway I think.

So I'm unsure of exactly how to proceed. I bought the movie pre order because it came bundled with the Star Trek Blu-ray so it was a good deal. The Vudu early release was just a nice benefit, but I've had just about enough of these darn online video streaming services that just don't ever seem to deliver what I want...Vudu has the content I want, but it tends to be unwatchable, Netflix performance is excellent and is built into my bluray player's apps, but Netflix has almost no content I find interesting. So I'll just keep buying blurays I guess.

So can anyone help me get this download to work properly? I suspect a tweaking is required but Windows 8 is frustrating to deal with as it does a really excellent job of hiding all the familiar tools from the user.

    Thanks in advance.
