Unless you happen to be a kid -- in which case many movies are good for 50 plus viewings :-)

There is another reason to purchase: archiving.

What if Vudu loses the license to play a particular movie in HD? I've seen plenty of movies with the HD and HDX box dulled out (ie. you cannot make a purchase). That may be because I am viewing it on my laptop (which cannot display HD material well, and it is not registered with Vudu), but again, there is the possibility that a movie in HD may get pulled.

Once you purchase a movie, it is yours for good even if Vudu loses the rights to show the content or the content in the particular format. Just because it is pulled from the catalog, it won't get pulled from your movies.

A lot goes on with the formats and licensing for the various players. I'm not connected with Vudu in the ways I was 5 years ago when the product was first released so I am not up to speed on the current structures. But I know that some players are licensed to get some content and others are not. I don't think Disney movies are available for computer streaming. It's very confusing actually and not consumer friendly either!

Then you get the whole mess where movies are rotated out of the catalog for whatever reason and may or may not come back again or in the format you want it....
