    Small bedroom size surround sound

UPDATE: I installed AC3Filter and VLC media player. VLC playes all the ac3 files properly now. And after installing CSII Controls, Media player plays DVD with surround sound, but both VLC and WMP still plays mp3s with only two front speakers..

    Any suggesions?? Thanks.

    Ignorant question for you...

So 1080p with 3:2 pulldown is a way to convert to 1080p/24fps??

    I am confused...or just stupid

No set shows a NAtive 1080P24 signal. It will show it at a multiple of 24 like 48, 72,96, 120, 240. Or it accepts 1080P24, like all my HD sets do and apply 3:2 pulldown to go to 1080P60 or in the case of my 1080P LED DLP set it applies 3:2 pulldown to go to 1080P60 and then doubles that to 1080P120.

"Support" could mean different things like Ed mentioned. I saw "3:2 pulldown" in the TV specs, so that leads me to believe it's not native 1080p/24.

A "reboot" of your Vudu never hurts, and sometimes helps. Keep in mind that the Vudu is only telling you what the TV said was its preferred setting (don't shoot the messenger). Some 1080p TV's don't support native 24fps (Vudu 1080p is at 24fps), so they go through a convolunted 3:2 pulldown routine. If your TV is telling the Vudu to use 1080i, then I would question whether or not it has true 24fps support.

VUDU only supports 1080p/24 and I don't see it listed under your TV's specs (http://www.vizio.com/product.aspx?id=2710&pid=1506). But for all intents and purposes, 1080i will give you same image quality.

I have a 720p panel too and HDX is better than HD to my eyes. Like Greg said, it's not about resolution but about compression & resulting artifacts plus better audio.

Given that prices are the same, I prefer to watch HDX whenever possible, but I could probably live with having regular HD for movies that don't have very much going on (like comedies).

You're probably better off using a 720p setting from the Vudu box since that's your native resolution... (that's what I have mine set to)
HDX will give you better quality than HD (even on your 720p display), as it is the same resolution as HD, but less compression. However, the difference is subjective and you may prefer to have instant access if you value that more. You really have a choice.

@OTBFAM: Sorry for your troubles with the HD resolutions. Nded is correct - get an HD Fury and you'll be all set.

As for the surround sound - yes, there's a number of movie w/o it. It's been a gripe since the get go. But Vudu takes and encodes what is provided by the studios. Odds are that if Vudu doesn't have it in 5.1, no one else does either.

Confirmed - no upper end HD resolution without HDMI/HDCP.

An HD Fury type device (can be had on ebay for under $100) will play HDCP with the HDMI port and convert it to Component Video - allowing you to watch HD resolutions on your non HDCP television.

One more note. I also noticed that the switch was set to 480i and when I switched it to 480p it just stretched the picture vertically and looked weird, so I set it back to 408i.

Can someone confirm that if I don't have hdmi on this tv, so I hooked up with component cables, I will NOT be able to take advantage of the HD resolution for renting vudu movies.
