Re: Small bedroom size surround sound

Got it all hooked up and it sounds great.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I found that a LOT of the movies are not 5.1 surround sound. I was watching ELF with the kid last night and almost ruined the movie by messing around with all the settings since the ct-100 kept saying 2.0 sound. Then I read the movie description again and it does not say enhanced sound. My bad.

I also realized that my tv does not support HDCP so the hdmi to dvi cable didn't work. Maybe will find a deal on a returned 32" tomorrow at best buy. I have spent more money trying to get the most out of this vudu box then I originally spent on the box. :,)

Uncompressed is PCM. All Dolby formats are compressed and either lossy(DD, DD+, etc) or Lossless(DolbyTrueHD).

100% correct. The difference in cables is there but the player won't distinguish.

both are 100% digital audio but only the HDMI is 100% uncompressed digital.

Question about the ct-100. Should I set the vudu sound in advanced options to dolby 5.1, even know the ct-100 is technically 3.1?
As an owner of CT-100, I can definitely tell you that for VUDU you need to select 5.1 option (other one is stereo, I believe). For all intents & purposes, CT-100 is a 5.1 system even though it simulates 2 rear channels.

For other sources you can either select 5.1 or 7.1. Read AVS thread I linked on first page for instructions & settings but I'll give you a hint right away -- MOVIE mode is usually best for everything. Sub & Bar levels can be tweaked based on your room & preference.

I'd advise you to try it both ways (3.1 and 5.1) with a good surround sound movie and see which sounds better to you - after all, that's more important than what one of us AV geeks think is the best way to do it!

I believe both ways are digital signal transfers so I think you should be good either way. One argument is that using HDMI is more convienent from a wiring standpoint when dealing with both video and audio. But if your only dealing with audio, optical should be fine. There are bandwidth limits to optical audio, but what VUDU outputs doesn't challenge that limit.

Let us knows how you end up configuring your system for the sake of the hive.

Once I pick up the CT-100 I will probably do VUDU--> HDMI --> CT100 --> HCMI to DVI --> TV. This tv is really nice, other than not having HDMI so I would hate to replace it just for one with HDMI.
If you plan on using an HDMI to DVI cable, make sure your TV supports HDCP, otherwise this isn't going to help you much...
