    1080 Software Upgrade

Is there any update on the software update necessary to get the 1080 function without buying the XL or XL@ Unit. I love the unit and have had it for around 4 months, but the idea of 480 in this day and age-is just plain wrong. I have Apple TV (720-probably) as well and Direc TV HD (1080), but my set is an old Sony (4 years) 50" XBR Plasma (10K List at the time)and is DVI or component.

Just feeling like to spend money to upgrade the TV- I would rather spend $25-50 on a software upgrade from Vudu. This creates an alternate revenue stream for the company, while keeping the installers happy that there is an upcharge for technology in the XL and XL2.

This could be accomplished by adding the option in the "Manage my Box" section of the site after sign in-just as with the AVN option.

Are any of you at VUDU Listening? Alternate revenue stream means straight to the bottom profit on your current customer base. The thought of the ammortization of the software through XL and XL2 users is great initially, but now it is time to move on as TIVO did and charge for higher storage as time went on.

It time to give the customers out there that have component video what they want and need, as they are more apt to buy a new TV, before the buy an XL or an XL2. In this case Vudu, get no new revenue stream. With my scenario, it does.

Time to do this is now, before ROKU, Tivo, or Netflix does. Build Market share, Build loyalty and build revenue!

    !
If your DVI supports HDCP then you should be able to get a cable to hook the HDMI out of the VUDU box to DIV in of you TV to get 1080 resolution.

Because DVI doesn't support audo, you'll have to use one of the VUDU Audio outs for your sound.

I'd try the DVI route first - I'm using an HDMI>DVI adapter with my front projection system and it works great. If that fails, I'm betting you'd get faster results going after your own "fix" - and HD Fury or similar device that converts HDMI to Component.

Can you tell me of a HDMI to component cable with digital audio out v the red/white cable???? I would really appreciate the link or help here.

Also, it would be so much easier if the guys at VUDU actually read my comments as it solves a problem for us and gives them a revenue stream they currently do not have

Thanks ED so much. Could you possibly direct me to a link or a site that has the HD Fury cable going to component video to HDMI with Digiatal or Coax audio?

I was also really hoping that the guys at VUDU would read my posting as it solves all of our problems without "workarounds" while creating a revenue stream that they currently do not enjoy.

I think it's a good idea. I'd love to pay a "customization" charge to get component HD on my BX100. It's nice to have it on the XL. I like your thinking.
