Random Choppy/Skipping Audio on 4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos playback over ARC

    Hey all,

I am running into an issue where a movie with Dolby Atmos playback over ARC will have choppy audio at random times. It sounds like audio skipping. If I pause the movie for a minute or back out of the film and go back the skipping will stop. If I play a movie back in just 4K/HDR there is no skipping at all. Movie plays with no issues. Here is how I have everything setup.

    Pioneer Elite Soundbar - FS-EB70
    TCL C807 Settings:
    1. Settings - Audio Mode - Auto
    2. S/PDIF and ARC - (Dolby D+, DTS)
    3. HDMI ARC and System Audio Control enabled
    Monoprice 115428 Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, 4K @ 60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 28AWG, YUV 4:4:4
    200mpbs network speed

    Anyone else experience this?

Very similar issue here. I just got Ready Player One in UHD, and the audio is stuttering, very choppy. It doesn't appear to be a bandwidth issue, because the Video looks amazing. I have a Yamaha v683 and a TCL 55P605 (same as the 55P607). I am using ARC as well. The choppiness only happens while playing the UHD with Atmos content. If I play the HDX version, it sounds fine. If I turn off the AVR and just listen to the TV speakers, it sounds fine also. (Well not fine, the TV speakers are junk, but there's no choppiness. I also put the AVR in pure direct mode so there's no decoding, and the stutters still happen, so it would seem there's something wrong with the audio stream from the VUDU player in the TV to the AVR.

There's an 8 page thread from December where it apparently got fixed for LG TVs through a firmware update. I would have thought it would have been fixed for all manufacturers by now. This was my first purchase from VUDU, I'm guessing it might be my last.

Yep. Agreed. I only have this issue on VUDU via ARC on UHD/Atmos playback. Quite annoying to be honest and will probably stop purchasing through here until it can get fixed.

Hey njrider, Have you had better luck?

I was told by the first customer support guy that I would be reached by a "higher level of support", but that never happened. But I wanted to add some additional info. I just rented Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, and it seemed to play just fine.

Same TV, same receiver, same cable in the same HDMI ports. As far as I can tell it was Dolby Vision and Atmos, just like Ready Player One. This played from start to finish with only one hiccup after unpausing (which is totally acceptable).

So I can only conclude that there was something wrong with Ready Player One. I'm asking for a credit to my account.

No luck on my end. Sorry for the long delay on the response but I wanted to try out my new receiver that I just got to see if it was a soundbar only issue. The new receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR676 and I am experiencing the same exact issue as my Pioneer. The audio will constantly skip and I have to Pause/Play until it stops or re-start the movie multiple times. This has to be a TCL ARC w/ Vudu. It's literally the ONLY application this happens on the Roku OS. FelipeF Any ideas on this one? 2 different receivers both experiencing the same audio skipping issues. TCL tv is up to date and firmware for both receivers are up to date. The only work around I have is going to the Apple TV 4K Vudu app where this doesn't happen.

I'm having the Same problem using Sony 85" Bravia running arc to a Denon 3600 home theater system. Both are on Google gigabit fiber, through cat 6 cables. TV & receiver are coupled using optic hdmi cable capable of supporting10k. Sound is fine using TVs speakers. Also, sound cuts out when adjusting volume via hdmi control. But, only while using the Vudu app. All other apps & functions of the TV/ receiver are working flawlessly. PLEASE address this, as it's not an "LG issue" My TV is Sony!
