Dolby Atmos Questions 101 + PLUS with VUDU Some help please...

    Hi,

So I have just bought an Atmos Soundbar (I know its not ideal), I would love to have the space to have a full pro setup but I dont.

Anyhow... first up for any Atmos experts, I have an Onkyo LS7200 ATMOS soundbar (I know budget). I can not for the life of me get ATMOS! Even through VUDU and its wrecking my head.

So in the first instance (pre VUDU)I have an ATMOS soundtrack in the form of a Trailer direct from DOLBY and I put it on a memory stick and plug it in to my TV, press play. SOUNDS GREAT!! A huge upgrade from my previous sound bar. On my Onkyo receiver it shows its outputting DD 5.1 but no ATMOS to be seen...

Is is my very limited knowledge that you play something lets say from your TV (in my case the USB) that has an ATMOS soundtrack attached it goes to the reciever which in turn decodes (is that the right term?) and sends to the speaker and then on to my ears in all its ATMOS loveliness... NO???

I do some finger tapping around the net and decide I sign up for VUDU as the UHD films are ATMOS enabled... I read the "what you need" and I have all of them... A compatible Samsung TV, a fast connection, an ATMOS enabled device (the LS7200) yadda yadda and rubbing my hands I dive in with my card details... I find a title that is UHD (with Dolby ATMOS) and sit back with a grin on my face waiting to be submerged in sound placement only to get the message "you can only watch in HDX or lower from your device". I was using the APP on my Samsung S7...

I was assuming I could cast direct it to my TV or via my Chromecast.

Can someone help? Whats the point of having an ATMOS soundbar or system if you cant stream or cast and can only use BlueRay or XBox etc which I dont have nor want to buy BlueRay...

    Many thanks in advance.

If it is giving you the ?you can only watch HDX? or lower on your device, it doesn?t sound like an Atmos issue but an issue with the app not being able to play 4K material. Not all the TV Vudu apps support 4K. You might be better off getting a Roku and running Vudu off that for 4K.

If I recall, an earlier post was talking about their 4K tv?s Vudu app didn?t support 4K streaming (I think it was also a Samsung TV or possibly an LG).

See this post, from 2017, but sounds like it still applies:

      Hello boojitede,

We are working with Samsung to support UHD content on their Samsung 2016 TVs. There are still some issues we are working with Samsung to resolve so that users get the best experience while viewing UHD on Samsung TVs.

      Thanks
