    Actually, Ed, I just found one that is HDCP compatible:

    It's not cheap, but it's not that expensive either...

    OK, it says it is HDCP compliant...What does that mean though??

    Sorry to throw a wet blanket on the party, but EVERY HDMI to Component device I have seen (and I've looked quite a bit) will not convert any HDCP signal, like the Vudu. Read the fine print on those boxes and you'll see the HDCP disclaimer. If you do ever find one, buy it fast before the lawyers shut down the company.

    Really. Now THAT would be a cool thing to have...

    My Denon will upconvert anything to component or HDMI but it won't convert HDMI down to component.. I'd love to be able to go HDMI to component.

    The restriction on anything above 480p on component video is silly. However, if you look at nearly all the upconverting DVD players on the market, none of them allow anything above 480p out of component - only HDMI. I know this because I have an LG upconverting player that DOES output 720p and 1080i over component but it has a front load mechanism that is problematic. When I was thinking of returning it, I bought several other DVD players both LG and Samsung. None of them allowed anything but 480p over component. So I kept the LG I had even though you sometimes have to load the disc 3 or 4 times. Also, the manual for my player says that it can't output HD resolutions over component, but it does.

    I think multi-use boxes like the AppleTV, X-Box, etc., give you HD resolutions out of component because watching movies isn't the only purpose. But with the Vudu, it's the only purpose for the box and I think the studios want to make sure their HD content is protected...

    Stupid, yes, but also it's reality...

    Given your situation, I'd advise you to watch the "free" Bourne HD movies at 480P and use that to gauge your satisfaction. NOTE: Be careful not to accidentally rent/purchase the SD version of the Bourne movies. If you do not yet see the "free" copies, give your Vudu a couple days to update its software and database.

    You have nothing to lose, and who knows, you might find the instant gratification lifestyle tolerable at 480P. That's one of the nice things about doing business with Vudu - they give you a 30 day risk free window to make the decision that is right for you, your gear, and your habits.

    Whatever you decide, I would be interested in hearing your impression of the HD movies at 480P on your Mitsubishi.

    I cannot upgrade to HDMI without purchasing a new tv. I have a fabulous Mitsubishi rear projection. The newer sets will not get me an appreciably better picture for the money to replace it.
    I am not sure keeping the device is worthwhile without the ability to watch HDTV.

    It has everything to do with Hollywood wanting to be sure nobody can copy the HD content. I've moved your question to this thread, please read the rest to get the whole picture. If you want to see the latest and greatest, you're going to have to upgrade to HDMI connections.

    I am just received my box, now just waiting for the arrival of my wireless extender. I know just read that I cannot get HD output through the component video connection. Is this really true or did I misread?

    I do not believe this was clear in any aspect of your marketing material. If so, I am unable to rent/view HD output through the device, greatly reducing it's usability.
    I have trouble with the licensing concept - I can get HD output through component on my Xbox as well as my satellite receiver.

    What gives?

    Can I get my $$$$ back?

    I'm happy to report that Vudu sent me a replacement box which now works fine. The picture through the component outputs is free of noise.

    1 - Are you using the same set of cables on both monitors? If so, try a different set of component cables and see if the problem follows the cable.

    2 - Make sure you aren't using a red/white/yellow cable that has different grades of coax for the connections - all 3 cables should "match".

    By the way, could you please tell us the make/model of your plasma monitor? It also might help if you can post your Vudu System ID for the engineers to pull up your diagnostic logs.

    Totally Off Topic - I've heard that after about 3 years the plasmas start to go downhill. Have you noticed anything like that with yours yet?

    Well, it's good enough to check out the selection and settings at 480p, so I'll guess I'll stick with it, but when it comes time to watch something I'll switch to the HDMI connection.
