    HD looks better than UHD

I purchased home alone in UHD and it looked worse than in HD. It looked very grainy. The trumotion was shut off. Can someone please explain why? Is it only older movies or all movies?

I don't have it in UHD yet so I can't can't compare the two streams. You will see more detail though since it was shot of film and not digital I would expect to see more grain in a higher transfer.

    Just a guess.

Thank you, that makes sense. I am going to stick to buying newer movies or remastered in UHD

Depending on the original film print, transfer, compression etc I was fairly disappointed with many older titles when 4K first started appearing. In some cases they just 1080p and upscaled to 4K and did not rescan the film print (expensive) for proper transfer. So flaws on the 1080 conversion are likely amplified.

I would except the Universal Studios 4K releases of Back To The Future in Oct to be of better quality and worth the purchase. But wait for reviews. Now will Universal do as good of a conversion as they could; likely not.But remember Spielburg is attached so he won't let too many corners get cut even if it isn't one of his premier films it is one for Universal.

The first one will look a lot better for sure. The last two were shot at the same time and a lot of corners were cut in production compared to the first one. Stupidly in my opinion.
