Early seasons of The Simpsons are cropped to fit widescreen 16:9! Please fix!

Early seasons of The Simpsons were made in a 4:3 aspect ratio, but for some reason the HDX versions of these early seasons on Vudu have the tops and bottoms cut off so they fit a 16:9 display. Please tell me this will be fixed. I just bought the first 11 seasons before finding this out, and I don't want to watch the show with part of the image cut off.

This is the only source file provided by the studio for these seasons. It appears this is the same aspect ratio that's available from FOX's streaming site as well.

I will not be buying these until the aspect ratio is fixed.

That would be incorrect as FX offer both the cropped and original ratio.

I am in the same boat. I bought a bunch of them and thought they would be in 3:4.

I too know that FX put them back into 3/4 after the Simpsons marathon debacle a few years back.

They were drawn to be viewed in 3/4. The videos exsist and believe it should be doable.

FOX has just notified us that there are no plans to change the current aspect ratios for The Simpsons.

Well, then, would you mind providing the contact information for the relevant parties at Fox so that we customers can give it a shot? With all due respect, I think our voices might carry a little more weight, especially considering that Fox has the 4:3 versions readily available on their SimpsonsWorld website. This isn't a theoretical get; they could easily swap over one set of files for another.

I called Vudu today to see if they could just downgrade my ownership of seasons 1-13 to SD from HDX (which they are unable to do), but the guy I spoke to did give me this number to call: 1-310-369-4656

You can leave a message with your name, number, and the problem you have. I only just called, so I don't know if this will do any good, but here's hoping.

Nope. If anyone from Vudu sees this, I'd respectfully like you to ask Fox again for an HDX encode in the original aspect ratio. Please let them know your customers aren't happy about this.

I've literally seen no one ever say they prefer the cropped versions. Maybe a casual viewer on FXX would be confused and prefer the fake widescreen cropped from the original 4:3, but anyone buying these seasons on Vudu is going to be a Simpsons fan and is going to want the full image. I only wish I had known that the HDX versions were this cropped junk before I bought them.

We have many Simpsons fans here, and have requested this several times. I can only say we will keep trying...

Thanks for the reply! Good to know you guys are still trying.

Would it be possible to have them send a 4:3 encode, and just have two listings for each episode in the early seasons? I imagine it could work like the "making of" videos for the newest season of Rick and Morty, where ownership of the episode unlocks the making of/behind the scenes clip that goes along with it.

Just in this case, ownership of an episode would give you access to a 4:3 copy as a bonus. I think something like that would satisfy everyone, if it's possible.

Exactly what I was arguing for, at least have it as a bonus...

Any kind of update on this? If 4:3 HD is out of the question, could someone change my ownership from HD to SD? I love The Simpsons and bought a ton of the early seasons, but I hate watching them (and barely do) because of this. I'd rather watch 4:3 SD than cropped 16:9 HD.

Now that Disney owns Fox Studios and The Simpsons, is there any chance someone could look into this again and try to get 4:3 files for the older seasons? I'm still very unhappy that I purchased so many of the older seasons with no warning that they were these ugly cropped versions.
