Lost 5.1 on all Vudu movies

Onkyo TX-SR706, Sony XBR-65X930D, connected to the receiver via TOS link.

Everything worked just fine until recently, when something changed. The television 100% passes the surround signal to the receiver. Netflix, Amazon, and HULU stream multichannel just fine. Nothing in VUDU comes through as 5.1

I've looked at all the settings and can't see where anything is different or has been changed.

    Any ideas?

Is your TV ARC capable? If so you might want to try that. I have noticed that certain App's do not output 5.1 over optical even though they do over ARC.

I have nearly the same setup -- same receiver, but Sony X940D TV. As the member above suggested, I use ARC and have had no problems with 5.1 surround or Dolby Atmos for that matter with VUDU. When I first bought my TV earlier this year I connected via optical and it was problematic, so give it a try.

I have the same TV (Sony XBR 940D) and what I discovered is that even though optical is capable of 5.1 that doesn't mean that it will output 5.1. And it is not necessarily the TV, it is App specific. For example on my TV, Netflix will output 5.1 over optical and ARC. HBO GO and VUDU would only output 5.1 over ARC, and 2.0 over optical. After some trail and error, I decided to use ARC. However some TV's down mix 5.1 to 2.0 over ARC and optical. Thankfully for us the 930/940D can output 5.1 over both.
