    buffer issues

Tried Vudu for first time on XBOX. Watched preview in HD and all was good.
Rented movie and buffering issues started, switched to SD and results were no better. Ran speed test and results indicated bandwith good enough to support HD.

Impression is this software not ready...Going back to Netflix - it works!

That's is what I am wondering.........VUDU, even in SD, has serious issues after 2 min. Switch over to Netflix...and not the first buffer. Same internet connection, same gaming console....but only an issue while within VUDU. There MUST be a solution.

      My questions would start here:

-What is your results from speedtest.vudu.com

-If you playback from our website, do you buffer from there as well?

-Wired or wireless? Can you list your network information so we have an idea of what we're working with?

        Re: buffer issues

I too am having problems using VUDU on my xbox 360. I have 4 bars wifi signal and Netflix plays perfectly on the XBOX. I can run VUDU in the next room on my wifi TV perfectly also. It only seems to be on the XBOX - possibly a buffering issue.

This is rather aggravating since this is my main living room TV.

My PC speedtest to VUDU at over 15000 kbps.

My router is good high bandwidth - this obviously is not the issue since i can stream fine to my TV in another room.

My opinion is that VUDU has some issues with the XBOX 360 app.

Please help VUDU - love your service but cant watch in my living room!!

I'm not at home right now, so I can't answer the speedtest or network info questions, but I had a very similar experience last night. I tried to preview a movie in HD on my XBox, and it buffered every 5-10 seconds and was unwatchable. SD wouldn't play at all, complaining that there was a network problem.

However, when I jacked my laptop into my TV (via a HDMI cable), it had zero problems streaming and was a perfect viewing experience, although our movie choice was questionable.

Both my laptop and my XBox are on a wireless connection via a Verizon FIOS router.

So you can stream SD from your PC, but can't from your XBOX? This is on the same wireless connection? It may be worth opening some ports to test. Did you try rebooting the xbox to see if the buffering continued afterwards?

Actually, I streamed my movie wirelessly on my PC in HD with no problem!

We tried powercycling the XBox to no avail. We even tried changing it from a pure wireless connection to a pseudo-wired one (using a Netgear powerline ethernet adapter), and that didn't work.

I'll check the ports, and see if the same problem exists.

You can't download or playback HD from your PC with VUDU. There is a restriction in place that only allows playback in SD.

Regardless, it streamed flawlessly, whereas I could not use the XBox to stream in SD (or HD).

Ok, could you post the model number for your Modem and Router?

                      It's a Verizon FIOS router/modem: MI424WR-GEN2

That device is pretty easy to setup port forwarding. It may be worth a try just to see if it helps at all with buffering.

You'll need to get the IP address of your XBOX first.

Go to your computer and open your web browser

-Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar

-Username Default is: admin Password: password

-go to Firewall settings at the top

-Click on Port fowarding on the left

                        -add port forwarding rule

-local host should be set to specify address, and then enter the IP for the xbox

-port range should be from 13200-13299

If you have any questions, please let me know.

                          Re: buffer issues

I set it up this weekend, and there was no improvement with Vudu via the XBox. There is still something wrong. Whether it's my XBox itself, or XBox Live, or the Vudu app, I don't know, but I think we've exhausted the possibility that it's my network somehow.

I say this because, on a whim, we tried the Vudu app on my PS3 (also connected wirelessly), and it worked with no problems, streaming in HDX, with no extra port forwarding necessary. I think, rather than continue to get frustrated with the Xbox app, the PS3 is just what I'll use going forward.

That's all well and good scruff, but for those of use that do not have the option of streaming from a PS3, we are still dealing with the same issues of constantly having to sit through countless buffer stand-by's. My 360s can't even get through a 2 minute preview without suffering from this little bug.

Netflix, Zune Market Place, EPIX, Hulu, YouTube, you name it. All work flawlessly through the 360. But unfortunately Vudu does not. It's too bad. I suppose we can wait until there is any update to the application that addresses this issue.

FWIW: I'm now experiencing significant buffering problems on my CAT6 wired PS3.
