Vudu just not working with Roku

Whenever I try to watch a movie it buffers every 5 or ten seconds, then says my network speed is insufficient.

Up until today, I had been watching movies in HDX no problem.

Earlier today, I was on the phone with tech support for over an hour.

We tried the remote battery trick.
We did the speed test. (network speed is fine)
We did the delete Vudu, power cycle, then reinstall vudu trick.
We did the trace route thing.
    I power cycled my modem/router.

Now the tech support guy wants me to call Comcast (my ISP) to set up a DNS. This seems like an awful lot of work, considering the hold times with Comcast are, at times, excruciating. Moreover, I really don't think that is the answer, considering every other Roku channel works and again I was watching movies via Vudu (even in HDX) with no problems up until today. But if someone else says its worth a shot I'll suck it up and try it.

Can anyone help me out here?

Re: Vudu just not working with Roku

I also am experiencing the same thing, and it seemed to just happen about the same time (mid to late April). It seems to be only with the actual Roku2 boxes, which is why I haven't reported anything till now.. I'm just sick and tired of it not working given my investment.

Here are the details of what I am seeing, and it just proves to me that it is an issue between the Vudu channel and/or in combination with Roku2 boxes themselves.

My Vudu/Roku troubleshooting has found the following in my house, running Verizon FIOS Quantum 50 mbps internet speed (typically get 20-35 mbps in reality over wireless:

    Game Room
    1) Samsung TV with Vudu app- works great, beautiful
    2) Roku2 XS in the same room as the Samsung TV - won't run Vudu, always says insufficient network speed now, takes forever to even show the VUDU movie items. Will no longer play, just keeps buffering. Whenever I try to use the network speed test inside of VUDU, it won't even register the green bar at all.. used to work perfectly prior to mid-April.
    3) Sony PS3 - Works fine

    Living Room
    4) Oppo BDP-103 Blu-ray player: Runs VUDU beautifully and fast
    5) Roku Stream Stick: NOTE - The stream stick works fine with VUDU, so the issue is confined specifically to the box hardware.

    Bedrooms & Lanai
    6) Roku2 XD (Guest Bedroom) - Same issue as the Roku2 XS above.
    7) Roku2 XD (Lanai) - Same issue as the Roku2 XS above.
    8) Sony PS3 (Master Bedroom) - Runs VUDU just fine

PLEASE HELP... Given my investment in Roku and VUDU (250 UV movies and counting) I expect better customer service and resolution of issues. It is clear something happened in April, so please let us know what it is and what is the plan to fix it. - Thank you

Re: Vudu just not working with Roku

Well, looks like so far you have ruled out the VUDU app/network and your home Internet connection - so it's probably an issue with the Roku connectivity (the Roku Wifi signal is notoriously touchy). I see you have an XD and XS. Is the XS using Ethernet or Wifi? And if Wifi could you try to use Ethernet and see what happens? That might help narrow it down even more.

        Hi Jake,

Sure, I will test when I get a chance with a wired connection. I have moved the various Roku boxes around to see if the issue was truly with the wireless signal. The only thing I can say at this time is no matter where I moved the box, and if I checked the wireless connection status in each Roku2 box, it says the signal strength is excellent (not just good, but excellent), and all of the other channels (Netflix, Amazon, Crackle, Epix, HBOGO) work fine.

        Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 2xs until I wired my living room for ethernet. Night an day difference. Should help. (make sure you change connection type in Roku settings)

Re: Vudu just not working with Roku

I noticed this is a thread over a year old but I had the same experience. After long hours waiting to get to a tech and after going through more time on their not so good trouble shooting and bla bla bla... I was able to get my Vudu work on the Roku Stick again.

It worked fine when I got it and installed it but it started with buffer problems when it got updated. After a while it got worse and worse so seeing I was getting nowhere with Roku Techs I decided to take things into my own hands. The solution was to get the signal strength stronger. Roku stick tells me the signal is excellent but Vudu speed network has interruption and at times indicates SD is my best option.

I just placed my wireless router behind my TV set and signal was boosted and Vudu is back online. Keep in mind the Roku Techs will indicate a distance of 5 feets to 10 I think but if it works closer for me then I guess that is the distance for my system.

Hope this helps someone out there.
