Xbox One App lacks details, filters and 7.1

App works great, but I am coming from using Vudu on the PS3.

    1. The PS3 App allows me to set a permanent filter only showing family movies for instance which kids typically watch all the time. I miss this the most.

    2. The Xbox One app also lacks detail like the PS3 showing if a movie is in Stereo, 5.1 and 7.1.

    3. Finally, the Xbox One App doesn't output 7.1 even though the Xbox One is set for 7.1 uncompressed. In fact the app doesn't output surround at all, only two channel stereo.

This means Vudu in my home is relegated to viewing on the PS3 which isn't a big deal, just a bummer.

Any update addressing some of this in the future? I am aware the 360 lacked these features as well.

Vudu does work when the console is set for 5.1 uncompressed and DTS, just not 7.1. Doe's anyone know if Vudu monitors these threads or am I supposed to open a support case?

They do monitor them, but it would be good to send in a support ticket, as well.

There is a confirmed bug in XBO audio routing that causes the Side channels (Sl/Sr) to be sent to the Back outputs (Bl/Br) instead when XBO is set to '7.1 uncompressed'. This occurs with other video apps (Netflix, Xbox Video, etc.), not just VUDU.

A fix is in the works. No ETA.

So here is a curious issue for you guys in VUDU Engineering. I just installed the new Xbox One app (and, by the way, it's great to now have the same UI as other VUDU apps). It's been a hot minute since I used VUDU on Xbox One, so I don't know if this is something from the latest build or it's been going on a while.

It seems that the dreaded Side/Back audio output issue (referenced above) has resurfaced...after a fashion. Now, it's not universal. Only some titles are affected. Others play back correctly. I did a quick survey.

The Hunger Games - Correct! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Side outputs.
San Andreas - Incorrect! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Back outputs.
The Martian - Correct! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Side outputs.
Kingsman: The Secret Service - Incorrect! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Back outputs.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Correct! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Side outputs.
Mad Max: Fury Road - Incorrect! 5.1 mix. Side channels come from Back outputs.

Six titles tested, 50% right, 50% wrong. Hmm. These are all the HDX streams, not UHD. Xbox One (regular, not S) set to output 7.1 uncompressed. Sounds like an interesting problem to investigate...

This sounds like an Xbox One firmware issue (actually, it must be if it also happens on other streaming apps - and this doesn't happen on other platforms with the same content). DD+ 5.1 by definition doesn't have rear channels so it's definitely a decoder bug. I'm surprised MSFT hasn't fixed it if it's been that way for years. I'll bring it up with them, especially now that they are officially supporting ATMOS...

              Thanks, Jake!

When Xbox One was new, the issue was across the board - all 5.1 content on all apps. Gradually, it was corrected to the point where most content/apps were working properly. VUDU was among the first to respond. To the best of my recollection, VUDU was still working correctly immediately prior to the latest build of the app. I flipped on San Andreas a few days ago for a couple of minutes to test something, and I didn't notice a problem then. The new build installed yesterday, and the problem was back. I haven't noticed any issues lately with the other Xbox One apps - including Netflix, Amazon, FandangoNOW, CinemaNow, and Xbox Video.

On other devices that decode the audio vs. bitstreaming it (e.g. PS4), VUDU drops the two blank channels from the stream when the content is 5.1 (true 5.1 stream). So no opportunity for the issue to occur. Xbox One is an exception, because it uses a fixed channel output at all times...
