Vudu - Roku 3, PS3 - Buffering and Disappearing Act

As I have mentioned before, if I pause a TV show, Breaking Bad, Wallykazam, and then resume, after about 10 seconds it will start to buffer. On top of that, and more annoying, after I watch a movie or TV show and either rate it (Movie) or get back to the selection screen, Vudu is pretty much blank, nothing loads. I can?t see box art, either movies I own, or spotlight, collections, new, nothing, it is like it is not loading. Many times I have to exit out of Vudu completely and get back in for it to populate.

For example, I watched Let?s Be Cops last night. I did pause it a few times, but with every movie, I never get the buffering issue, that only happens on TV shows. When I finished the movie I rated it and selected done. It took me back to the movie page, but it wouldn?t let me see anything else. The special features (included with this purchase) would not play. I would hit okay (Roku 3 remote) and nothing would happen. When I backed out, getting back to My Movies, it was empty. If I moved over to the other tabs, New, Movies, TV, Collection, etc, they were all blank too. The only way to get it to refresh or repopulate was to back out and get back in.

This has been happening for about a month now, and it has been present on the old UI and the new one. I have unplugged the Roku a few times during the past month, but that doesn?t make a change. I have also power cycled and factory reset the modem/router that the Roku is hard wired too, but that didn?t make a difference either.

I mainly use my Roku, but for a few days I used the PS3 and the same thing happened there.

Anyone else having a similar issue or any resolutions. Speedtests all show fine, 35 down.

Have you tried to open any ports on your router before? Just a guess, but maybe it's firewall related?

13200-13299 is the port range to open for VUDU if you want to give it a try. Let me know if you need help doing this.

Thanks. I will give that a try this weekend, and let you know how it goes. Hopefully that makes a difference. It's odd that it only started to happen recently. I started to think that Comcast was trying to cut me off a little.

If you have Xfinity aka Comcast Home they will likely try to throttle you a bit after 250GB/mo. Check your account. If you break the limit too often, they start charging extra. If Comcast is your only real choice, like me, see if you can get a business-class or Teleworker account if you don't care about actual cable TV/phone too much (or are willing to pay the extra $$$).

I am currently with Comcast/Xfinity and have had them about a year now. I had Fios (Frontier bought them here) before, and may switch again. I go with whoever is cheaper, and have no problems switching back and forth. Yeah...I am sure Comcast doesn't like me. They have removed the 250GB cap here, which is the only reason I considered them again. Thanks mostly to Vudu I know have gone over 400GB a month for the past year, and the previous three months show 606GB, 474GB and 404GB. I hvae not been able to see or tell though if they are throttling me or not. Speedtests always come out fine. Thanks.
