Well, I finally watched my first Vudu Movies On Us movie last night, Sunday 10.23.16, and overall I wasn't overly impressed as I had several issues especially during the cycling of the (3) commercials and going back to the movie I was watching.
I do appreciate what Vudu is attempting to do with Movies On Us but it did not work very well on my first attempt. Several times while I was watching commercials, the Roku Ultra would just hang or hang between commercials and not even go back to the movie at all. So, I would have to back completely out of the Vudu app and start the app up again and then watch some of the same commercials again. Sometimes it would just hang during the (3) commercials and I would be sitting there with that loading circle on the screen while the Vudu app attempted to move from the 1st commercial to the 2nd commercial. After waiting 30 secs. to 1 min. for the 2nd commercial to play, I would just exit the Vudu app and then start it again, watch some of the same commercials again, and then it would finally proceed to go back to the movie so I could continue to view the free movie. During (1) movie, I had probably (6) instances of hanging load screens that only occurred while the commercials were playing and forcing me to quit/back out of the app, and then restart the movie. Not quite the experience I was wanting to happen. I don't mind having to view the (3) commercials but it just needs to work better.
Fortunately, during these errors the Vudu app was smart enough to know where I was in viewing the movie and it did take back off where the movie was interrupted by the commercials. Between the commercials and the numerous problems that occurred, I think my 90 min. movie took well over 2 hrs. to get through.
I have a 50 Meg internet connection, so I doubt that was the issue, especially since when the movie was playing I had absolutely no problems/buffering at all. Could it be the Roku, I suppose, but doubtful since all of my purchased movies play with no problems at all. Not sure if this is a problem with the Vudu app itself or just the overall process of cycling between the commercials and the movie I was watching.
Once again, this is a great idea (Movies On Us), but if many people have similar or the same problems that I did during my (1) movie, customers may think it isn't worth the hassle of constantly restarting the app. Once again, all of my problems occurred at some point during the cycling of the commercials.
