EDIT2: it really varies by scenes. Most of it is looking great in DV. There are some darker scenes where the highlights get posterized. Not sure if it?s something in the latest update or not since it didn?t watch BP before.

EDIT3: buffering really bad today. Had to switch to Roku as it was buffering every few minutes.

I just watched the beginning again. I missed that in the apartment scene. The one guys(uncle) face looks really bad in some of the scenes.

The closed captions still show up a second or 2 before they are supposed to on the newly released version.

On the darker scenes with very bright highlights(from fire, or lights in the movie) my tv did have some noticeable halos from the edge lighting on the tv, especially on the black bars. I can deal with that because everything else looked amazing and bright!

Jake, I went to Xfinity and talked with them about the buffering, found out that my modem was an older model, replaced it to their new high speed modem.....Checked the original Blade Runner 4K Dolby Vision and it ran for 20 minutes before it went to the Title screen with the spinning circles, had to exit back to the WATCH UHD screen and resume from there.....Watched Wonder Women UHD DV almost to the end when it just stopped, no buffering and kicked tv into the screensaver mode.

I had to click that link then on my TV go to google play and search for the app to install it. Then there will be 2 VUDU apps on your android TV.

And it wasn't "buffering", etc but kicked you out to the Chromecast screen and you had to restart? As I mentioned, using the Android TV app is actually completely different from the cast app - eventually I would think the native app will give the best experience.

As far as the 2 apps - basically... the Sony TV app has been a "native" non-Android TV app built into the TV. Vudu is moving to a full Android TV app that will allow more frequent updates and features, but there will be an overlap where both the old and new app are present.
Jake, does that mean you are going to replace the "native" Vudu app on Sony TV"s with the new one? Does that require Sony to update our TV's our you able to do that without getting Sony involved and save time?

Please note that during this beta we welcome and encourage your feedback within this forum thread, but cannot offer customer support for issues encountered.

    Hello,

I just looked at my TV to see if Vudu is updated and/or update it. I can't seem to do it. I Sony is an Android TV. I opened Google Play Store, and amazingly enough, Vudu isn't offered. FandangoNOW, YouTube, and other "movie/TV players" are available but not Vudu. The funny thing is, Vudu is available on my TV, and I watch it, but it won't play in 4K like I would expect. I finally found Vudu in the TV system settings under "apps," but there is no way to uninstall it, reinstall it or updated it.

To start, my TV info is as follows:

    Model: XBR65X93D

    Resolution: 4K Android TV

    Software version: PKG5.381.0167NAB

    Vudu info:

    Version 3.1.0 (revision 165531)

Do you know how to get this version updated when Google Play Store doesn't even offer Vudu? Can you forward this info to anyone that can get it to work/update? FandangoNOW just updated today via Google Play Store, and finally plays UHD HDR beautifully. I much prefer Vudu. I do have a Roku Premier with Vudu that plays 4K, and it looks good, but surprisingly enough, when I play 4K movies on the TV itself, it looks so much better. Please look into this and get your app to update, or get Sony to update it if you can. Thanks for your time.

    Sincerely,

    Tim Gunter

When I check the app using display it's showing 4 bars on a UHD DV title, it will run for a while then buffer, go the the title screen with the spinning circles.... I'm on a 250Mbps Xfinity internet using a direct connection from the modem to the Sony XBR65-A1E using a CERTIFIED: Mediabridge Cat6 Ethernet cable with CM Grade PVC Jacket is UL Listed, complies with TIA/EIA 568B.2 and adheres to ISO/IEC 11801. APPLICATIONS: High bandwidth of up to 550 MHz guarantees high-speed data transfer for server applications, cloud computing, video surveillance and online high definition video streaming. When it buffers I find that I have to go back to the Title Name Screen and click Watch UHD again to get it to work....when it starts it showing 4 bars....I have yet to be able to watch a movie a UHD DV title without it stopping at least every 10 minutes very problematic......

And word on 2015 Sony tv's? I have a 850c in my living room and would be nice not to have to turn on my Sony blu-Ray player when I want to watch 4K vudu.. Both tv's run android 7 so I don't see why it would be an issue.. Anyone have advice on side loading? I only know how to do it after rooting the os, I've tried Es file explorer also, backing the app up to USB and then moving it to my 850c.. It will install, but no icon shows up any place so I'm not able to open the app
I had the same problem with the image being to dark so I turned the advanced contrast enhancer to high. Normally I prefer to use as little processing as possible but it was a positive improvement in my case.

I have a Sony 2016 D series model and have encountered the same issue. It shows as a 2015 model in Google Play.

JeffreyVUDUJake My post must have been deleted when the forums went down earlier. The Vudu beta does not work for the 2016 Sonys. Google Play says my 850d is incompatible with the app. GP also recognizes my TV as 2015 Sony Bravia, despite it being the 2016 model year. Thank you
