Re: New IR Remote Dongle NOT Working?

    Greetings

I just got an XL unit

I would like to control this by an RTI remote system: from an IR port of an RTI XP-8 processor

Can I connect direct to the port on the XL ?

If so, which 2 pins are used please?

    Thanks

NO NO NO - don't plug anything other than the unique Vudu IR dongle into that port. It has special circuitry, and any other IR device you plug into that port will likely kill the port, and possibly your Vudu motherboard.

Does the RTI system have network control capability? If so, then this would be the best way to control your XL as it has the network control feature.

I am not familiar with the XP-8 but I do know that they do manufacture a IR blaster capability and a powerful set of macros that can be triggered with power line sensors etc. You may need to have one of the VUDU engineers direct you to a professional installer that works with this equipment to implement the IR codes.

You have the IR kit, right?

Simply program the Harmony using the configuration program and add the Vudu in like any other device. I think it's in under Set Top Boxes. If you know how to program the Harmony, you know how to add the Vudu in.

Just make sure the IR kit is fully seated into the jack.

Re: New IR Remote Dongle NOT Working?

Hi, I too just bought a New VBX1000 Vudu and also have a Harmony Remote.
It won't work since the Vudu is controlled thru Radio Frequencey "RF" and not by IR. The did make a adapter but as to availability, possibly someone on this Forum knows if those adapters are still available???
I called Vudu on Saturday with a request to purchase one, but the agent had to pass-on my request to higher up support level. If I get an answer, I'll post it to you.
Again, anybody out there know if this adapter is available? Thank you.

There is an easy solution. ANY IR receiver dongle will work with the Vudu box. Vudu used to say it was a special adapter, but it isn't. It's not an IR blaster that you need, but a receiver unit. These can be found just about anywhere on the web but are not as common as the blasters of course.

My XL won't work at all with my RF remote hardly. I've been very successfully using it with my Pronto remote control system. But since Pronto has gone RIP now, I'm transitioning to a new system from OnControls.com that is an iPad based whole home remote system.

I have two Vudus that use IR dongles. One is using the Vudu one and the other one from elsewhere. Both work just great. Remember, it's an IR receiver dongle - not a blaster.

                  Jon
