Network errors watching Vudu on Roku 2

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums and pretty new to Vudu, too. I really love the service, which is why I am so disappointed that I've been having so many network problems watching it on my Roku 2. Last week, I rented The Avengers, but network problems prevented me from even watching it (if there's a way someone can restore my credit for that purchase, I would be very appreciative). I rented it a second time a couple of days ago, and while I was able to finish the movie, I experienced many network problems. Power cycling my modem/router does not seem to help.

Various speed tests on my laptop, iPad, and iPhone show my download speed to consistently be around 20-25 Mbps. The rest of the channels on my Roku stream just fine, with little to no buffering or connection errors. However, I have seemingly no end of problems with Vudu. I am not complaining; rather, I would like to know if anyone can help me figure out why I am having these problems so I can fix it. I want to continue renting movies and enjoying Vudu, so I would be very thankful for any help anyone can offer me.

    Hello Nortoons,

I replied to your PM. We will need some information to get a case started for you.

Had similar problem. Kept saying network speed not good enough. After having ATT out twice, I finally did a factory reset on my Roku box and that solved the problem. Don't know why but it worked. Don't forget if you do reset on box, you also have to push reset on remote under battery cover for it to work. Pain to have to re- login to all my channels but the result was worth it. Good luck.

I think something was going on between the Roku/Vudu interface as this is about the 3rd thread in the same timeframe I see on the topic. I myself had issues Friday evening trying to watch a Vudu movie on my Roku 2 HD with constant re-buffering. Disconnecting the Roku from its power supply, then plugging it in for a re-boot solved it for me. But it seems like something is going on between the two services.

Roku has trouble with Vudu, but no other streaming service? Vudu's problem I am sure but they want you to reboot your Ruku to fix it till the next time it keeps buffering over and over Something about memory issues.

We have also been getting a lot of network errors (and buffering) trying to watch movies and trailers on our Roku 2. Most of the time the movies are SD. Most of the time we can retry 2 or 3 times and our movie or trailer will finally play.

Just now I was watching a trailer and got the message "Insufficient Network Speed". I selected Continue in HDX a couple of times and it finally played.

There have been a couple of times lately when the network errors or buffering was so bad that we couldn't watch our movie and we entered a case. Vudu responded to our case saying this: "We are aware of the situation. We appreciate your comments/concerns. We are trying to fix this, I do not have an estimated time for a fix on this."

I belong to the Roku forum too and there are posts there about issues with Crackle, Amazon, and Netflix too. I'm sure the problem lies somewhere in the middle, between Roku and the content provider with both sides having a hand in it. It could just be that streaming technology isn't all the way there yet. I have to recycle my roku and my bx100 from time to time. Now I just do it out of habit if I know I want to watch a movie that day. Not ideal but for me not a major inconvenience.

I have yet to have a buffering issue with any other service other than Vudu. I have a 10 mbps.

Are you wired or wireless? Do you buffer with every movie? Which model do you have?

Roku2 xs and yes I will buffer even on sd movies. I reset roku box and it will work for a while but does the same thing later. Wired I have put in a support ticket, did speed test, did tracert etc. Came down to having to reset. I would buy a better device if I knew of one that worked better. And my ps3 is to loud and having to activate and deactivate devices is a pain! Roku is dropping a new device soon but I doubt it will be more powerful and GTV needs to grow more

I'd like to echo the same issues on my roku 2xs. I buffer every thirty to sixty seconds on SD movies and more frequently (if you can believe that) on HD and HDX. I'm hardwired to my router and have no issues with netflix or amazon streaming, and my apple tv experiences no issues at all.

does the roku app need an upgrade?

having problems on my Roku 2 XS device. keeps saying I am having networking errors, while having no problems streaming with a computer or an IPAD on the same network, with the same account.

ROKU is ethernet connected. Tried uninstalled the channel and reinstalling it, but made no difference.

Trying to watch my ULTRAVIOLET movies. But only works via my computer.

Network connection is 3.1MBPS download, and only watching SD movies.

ROKU can watch AMAZON PRIME movies with no problems.

I can't believe this worked but it did for me -- The Bluetooth remote interferes with the network

                          1. Connect the Roku 2 XS to your network.
                          2. Take out the batteries from the Roku remote.
                          3. Control the Roku player using the Roku remote app.
                          4. Play a title from Vudu.
