Long time Vudu user for years in HDX no problem. Finally bit the bullet and got a very nice 4k OLED Smart TV and was excited about the prospect of finally being able to watch 4k UHD on Vudu.
Amazon Prime 4K , and other 4K streams (YouTube, the few available 4K on Netflix, etc..) all work perfectly.
But Vudu 4k UHD doesn't. Movie will start out almost fine, just a minor 1-second drop / skip in the audio here & there, but after 5 minutes it gets worse, and then after another 5 to 10 minutes its stops with ERROR "Playback Error. Sorry, the video player has stopped working. Please try again".
All my gear is modern and my network config is proper / stable. All firmware / apps are fully updated. TV and Router are both new within the past 4 months. Speedtest.net shows I'm over 100Mbps down / 6Mbps up. Router has amazing range, dual-band, and I've tried on both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands. All other devices / apps in the house are fast and work perfect.
I've tried everything as far as troubleshooting goes.
So I called Vudu support on phone. Agent was nice. But, no answers. Had me do speedtest.vudu.com , good fast connection. Tried to blame my TV - well, 4K streams perfect on all other apps, so that's a stretch. When I said Amazon Prime 4K streams perfect, Vudu agent said "well their system is different than ours". OK, I understand systems are different, but there's no denying that I've got a 100Mbps connection, 2018 OLED Smart TV with Dolby Digital / HDR+ / Dolby Atmos (though I don't use Atmos since I don't have ceiling speakers, just a nice 5.1 setup through a modern Yahama smart receiver - supports all those formats... Arc) , and no denying that the ONLY app that has any problem streaming 4K UHD is Vudu.
I'm so frustrated that I decided to register here on the forum and share / search for others who are encountering same thing. Found tons of users on Reddit with same exact issue - Vudu only problem - variety of brands of TV's / systems, all with very fast stable connections - all with one thing in common - 4k streaming is fine on all other apps but Vudu 4K UHD spits & sputters and craps-out on them as well.
Such a bummer. I know it's not the end of the world, but why is Vudu selling / renting 4K UHD when clearly they have a problem supporting it and/or problem with the app? The choice of 4K videos elsewhere is either stale or limited, while Vudu has more new 4K titles, which is the only reason I'm even bothering. If there were a better source of 4K streaming movies, I would simply ditch Vudu and use something else.
According to the Vudu Help pages, my equipment and speeds all meet and/or surpass their requirements for 4K UHD streaming.
Rented a second movie last night just in case the issue was with the first particular movie I tried. Same problem. Wasn't going to keep renting more and basically pay to be a Vudu Beta Tester.
Can anyone relate?
I'm attaching my Vudu speedtest results, plus my direct speedtest.net results, plus photo of the error on my screen every 10 minutes when trying to watch 4k UHD on Vudu.
