UHD issues with Vudu app 3.0.37 on LG OLED

On my LG OLED55B6P TV I recently had a mandatory upgrade of the Vudu app from 3.0.36 (10/29/2019) to 3.0.37 (12/18/2019) and am now having some UHD playback issues. I was able to get through the UHD (HDR) version of Ad Astra but had several playback errors, and a few instances where the video would freeze up. Two of the latter actually caused the TV itself to crash and reboot.

Another issue I had several times was when attempting to "Resume", where I would end up getting only the audio from that playback point with the video stuck with just the cover art image with the spinning blue icon below...forcing me to exit and re-try.

I had no such issues at all with 3.0.36. I don't know why this was a mandatory update but it's not a good one.

I was able to reproduce this issue when I played Ad Astra on a similar model, but only with this specific movie. Do you see the same problem when you play other content?

Ahhh...that's very interesting. Actually Ad Astra is the only UHD movie I've tried since the update. I've not had any issue with anything else in 1080 HD. I'll have to see how other UHD movies go in the future and post back. It may well be that I would have had an issue with that specific movie even on the previous version. Thanks for the prompt reply!

Now I'm actually on version 3.0.38 and tonight is the first time I've watched and UHD content since watching Ad Astra...specifically "The Art of Self-Defense" which is HDR. I had one playback error, but also three different times when the video froze and where it crashed and rebooted the TV. This never happened to be prior to 3.0.37. Not looking good.

I don't really want to place blame, but the app on LG TVs is an "HTML app" (think web browser) - so there isn't much we can do if the TV is literally rebooting. That said, if you private message me more details (your acct login, mostly) our QA team can try to reproduce and report it to LG to investigate. Thanks!

Well...granted, it shouldn't be possible for any app bug to cause that. That said, I've also had plenty of playback errors and video freezes etc that didn't do that. More importantly none of that happened in 3.0.36 where UHD playback was flawless. I'll keep an eye on it. When I was having those issues in my last post, I tried shutting the TV off and unplugging it to force a complete cold start. After that I got through the rest of the movie with no issues...however I also avoided any jumping forward of back, which seems to be related to the issues.

Agreed, we don't want to see playback errors either. As mentioned, if you PM me more details I'll pass it on to our QA team.
