"Vudu encountered problems during the playback. Please restart Vudu and try again"

So, I have a Galaxy Tab A that can only connect to the internet by using WiFi. I've had the Vudu app on it for some time and generally haven't had any major issues with it. However, within the last month or so the App has been having issues to put it mildly.

A couple of weeks ago I got the error message "Vudu encountered problems during the playback. Please restart Vudu and try again" okay, I exited the app and started it up again. No luck. I played downloaded titles (I never stream through wifi on the app, only download) and the same message appeared. I eventually had to uninstall the app and redownload a bunch of movies and tv shows, a few days ago, it happened again. It happened once again a day ago and it has happened just now once again. Stuff that I was literally watching about an hour ago is now no longer playing and giving me that error. What is up with the Vudu app and does anyone have a fix for this issue besides me constantly having to uninstall/reinstall and redownload a bunch of my library?

At least I know that I am not the only one. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I miss using my tablet to watch movies.

There is no "one size fits all" solution to any streaming issue. If you continue to have problems with your streaming experience, please contact customer care so they can better assist you.

I'd be glad to hear news of ANYONE getting a solution to this problem. Within the past month, I started suddenly receiving the same playback error, but only on one of several devices I use. It's unfortunately my phone and the primary device I would use to watch anything. I searched for answers online and have found dozens of people experiencing the same issue, although with different devices. But none of the sites I've seen can even hint at an answer. The Google Play store reviews mention this problem often, but there are no answers there either. I opened a ticket with Customer Care on 2/15 and I'm waiting for an update. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that it can be resolved. I was hoping to convert as much of my physical library to digital as I can, but I haven't seen anyone give a working solution online except in cases where someone gets the error from trying to watch the same video on multiple devices. It's definitely frustrating when you can't access more than 200 titles you own!

Can you provide me with the following details so we can take a closer look at this, thanks.

            - Software version on the device
            - Software version of the Vudu app
            - Titles that are experiencing this issue
            - Connected via WiFi or cell data

UPDATE: You must be on the Vudu app version 7.4.5.r002. This version resolves this issue on Samsung devices. Please check for an update in the Google Play store. Let us know if this resolves your issue or not. We would like to get some feedback on this.

I updated from version 7.4.4.r005 to version 7.4.5.r002. I do have a Samsung device, but the update did not resolve my issue.

Also, I just learned that I can still watch everything on my Samsung phone with these app issues by going to Vudu.com, viewing the page in Desktop mode, and watching it through the web browser. I've been able to open them only in Desktop View though. Redirecting from the site to the app gives the playback error.

I never heard back after my incident was submitted on 2/15 and the app update mentioned above failed for me, but I fixed the problem accidentally. An Android game I play (Archero) sent a mass notification that some players were experiencing game crashes (I was not) and to update Android Webview to version 89.0.4389.105 if this was happening. There was no update listed in the Play Store until I directly searched for Android Webview.

I have been checking Vudu once daily since this started happening to see whether the error would suddenly resolve. Once I realized what Android Webview was, I had a feeling that updating it might fix this Vudu playback error and it did! Hopefully posting here helps someone else with the same issue. I don't think Customer Care can do much about this.

I am also having this issue on my Fire 10 Tablet. Updating did not fix this. Uninstalling and reinstalling did not fix this. Installing Android Webview did not fix this. Attempting to stream from a browser did not fix this. Downloading didn't work either. Considering all of the comments I have found regarding this issue on various devices, the answer may not be onesize fits all but the problem does appear to be exactly that.

Amazon Fire tablets are not supported at this moment. 2nd generation Fire Sticks and Fire Cubes only.

This just started happening to me. I have a Google Pixel 2 XL. App is up to date but nothing plays. Gives me the same error as the OP.
