Fandango Forum Guidelines

The Fandango are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Fandango experience. Here, Fandango customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango Streaming and Fandango Streaming related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Fandango customers with questions and/or problems with their Fandango Streaming service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Fandango Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

Please post all comments in English. When posting a comment in the Fandango Forums, please conduct yourself in a respectful and civil manner. While we respect that you may feel strongly about an issue, please leave room for discussion.

    2/18/09 - HERE IS MY OUTGOING ROUTER LOG FOR MY VUDU BOX. GIVEN THAT I AM UPDATING 16 OTHER VUDU BOXES FROM MY NETWORK, I NOW UNDERSTAND THE WHY IT DRAGS MY NETWORK TO ITS KNEES. I DID A TRACERT ON THE DESTINATION IP ADDRESSES AND THEY ARE IN NEW YORK, CALIFORNIA, TEXAS, ETC.

    2/18/09 - HERE IS AN ANSWER I GOT BACK FROM CUSTOMER SUPPORT REGARDING BANDWIDTH: All of our content is distributed out to each VUDU box. When a VUDU box is set to 4mbps, it is connected to 16 peers that need information off of your box and can use up to 300kbps of your upload stream.

    2/17/09 I just enabled incoming and outgoing logging on my Linksys WRT54G wireless router without my vudu connected to the network. Then, I used my laptop to hit a few websites then looked at the logs. No surprises. I then reconnected my Vudu and tried to look at the logs. Guess what? I can't even connect to the router 198.162.1.1! Vudu box traffic overflowed the logs in the router? is that possible? Is that why I can't connect to the my router, now? Is it possible that after having my vudu powered-up and connected to the internet since last wednesday, that the vudu box is STILL banging away trying to download database updates from the Vudu site?

    Previously, sent concerns about Vudu using ALL available bandwidth! Now, I want to know what vudu is du-ing!!!!!!! I will send logs if I ever get back into my router.

    No, and no...and it is extremely unlikely it is a result of anything to do with your vudu box. By the way that is the wrong address...it should be 192.168.1.1, you might want to try that first. If that fails, there is a reset button on the back of your router to reset your router.

    What is your bandwidth limits? VUDU is restricted to 4mbps download and about 300-400 kbps max upload, and even that can be throttled down via the vudu info & settings / service quality / bandwidth limit screen.

        I have that same router. Though I never enabled logs, I have not had that issue and I connect to my router about 1 a week or so. My son plays xbox live on the network too - sometimes while I'm watching movies on vudu - and we have not seemed to step on each other.

        Note the other response indicating the router address is 192.168.1.1 though you may have just mistyped when you were posting.

        good luck. It would be interesting to see an exceprt from one of those logs if you get to the router. If it is the Vudu box, presumably you can disconnect it again and that should free the router up.

          I'm showing this as your first post, so I'm just curious where you sent those previous concerns?

          By the way, what you are describing is not normal for a Vudu box.

            When a VUDU box is set to 4mbps, it will also use 300kbps for uploading. If your DSL line only has 400kbps max for upload, then using 300kbps will slow down your connection for all your other devices. What you can do is when you're not using your VUDU box, set the bandwidth down to 1mbps so it won't tax your network. When you want to use the box, you can always set it back to 4mbps so you'd have instant SD and HD streaming.

                If I set the bandwidth limit to 1mbs, I have noticeable degradation in network performance. I have posted the router logs for my Vudu. The destination IP's are all across the country and the amount of packets (not the size) sent is alarming. Vudu is a very chatty application. I would like to know more about how I am updating content on up to 16 Vudu boxes owned by other vudu users. I sent more details of the my home setup to Customer support about an hour, ago.

                  Dude,

                  Sorry you're having trouble, but calm down on the tone. If you think the VUDU is killing your network than unplug it for now until you can get it sorted out. You'll be fine with it unplugged for a few hours.

                  Your network is quite capable of being connected to multiple locations. Have you tried ping tests with the VUDU attached and not attached? Speed tests? Have you tried a different ethernet cable? Tried plugging into a different switch?

                  Realize that many before you have plugged a VUDU into their homes and not had the walls start shaking. So obviously there is something funky about your situation. I had my home network seize up one night after replacing a device and it turned out I had looped an ethernet cable back into the same switch. So there's something going on - maybe it's a faulty VUDU unit. But try some troubleshooting rather than freaking and ranting.

                    My three VUDU boxes still constantly upload at around 330kbs each for about 1mbs total. Anytime I check them they are uploading. The only time I don't see this is if I turn it on then it stops uploading for a short time and then starts again.
                    This is no problem for me though since I have a 20mbs upload bandwidth on FIOS.

                    I actually wish I could at least triple their upload rate since I have bandwidth to spare.

                      Connections to multiple places is not unrealistic nor is it the end of the world as you make it sound. Your box is probably pulling data from many sources as well as sending it. I would try letting your box fully update. It should calm down. What is your rated download speed? 400 kbps is not much for upload. Is that your ISP's claimed speed or is that the speed you actually get when testing at some place like www.dslreports.com/stest ?

                      I would verify that you can support 100 kpbs upload...

                      Who is your ISP and what sort of service is it? Please tell me it is NOT a wireless service of some sort...

                          It certainly is not with my boxes. The 300 kb/second is a maximum and not what it runs at all the time. As we speak, my 5 boxes are uploading less than 100 kb/s total (< 20 kb/s/box). I have seen it go up near the maximum but that is rare. It is usually much lower and frequently negligible.

                            I have to turn mine on to check it from teh box which then would make it stop for a few minutes, but I can look right now and see that all my boxes are sending or receiveing data just from the activity lights.
                            When I check through my router it seems that my three boxes seem to use their max rate most of the time and sometimes only 400kbs to 600kbs between the three.
                            But if I do turn on a box, after a few minutes it will start uploading again and I almost always see it doing so at 330kbs for all of them.

                            But I also upload/download between 1TB and 2TB every month now between my 40 devices on my Network.

                              Right now I am using a total of 68 kbps between all my devices on my network and I have 3 Vudus. The most I have seen them use at any one time is 600 kbps but that's not for long.

                              They really do not run all the time. The network lights may flash constantly but that's because they basically always keep a path open to the Vudu servers. There's minimal traffic sent doing that...
