HD buffering on Fios with 20Mbps d/l???

    Looking for some help...

The last two movies I've rented in HD have NOT streamed to my Vudu...within a minute or so of the movie starting, it goes into a buffering mode, taking three HOURS or more to D/L the movie.

    Some info:
    - using FiOS
    - Vudu is connected via WiFi to the network
    - just tested (speedtest.net) from a wireless laptop and seeing 20.20mbps D/L speed
    - previous downloads of HD streamed perfectly
    - verified that I selected HD and not HDX
    - no other network activity taking place concurrently
    - nothing has changed since I had no issues (TV, Vudu, router are all in same location, no other wireless added to house, etc)

Any ideas what's causing this very slow HD download?

    Thanks!
    Brian

I have the BD390 also. I had to change the DNS servers in the BD390 to what Verizon uses(Open DNS works too). Prior to that I would have occasional drops from the HD stream. After I changed the DNS servers IP addresses to the FIOS DNS IP addresses(or OPEN DNS) I get three bars on HDX. One bar initially, then in a few seconds it goes up to three bars and stays there.

I have a FIOS 25/15 connection. This afternoon we rented "The Ugly Truth" from VUDU on the BD390. I checked the HDX bars around six times during the 1.5 hour movie and every time it was showing 3 HDX bars.

Thanks for the info, but I don't think I have the same unit - my set top box shows a model # of VUDUBX100. I went into the settings of the device and there is no place that I can find to modify the DNS settings - it just shows that the default gateway is set to my Verizon router IP.

        Adam -

I have replied to your IM with the test results.

I noticed that with my BX 100 units. In Amadeus mode you can access that info.
Do the network settings in Amadeus carry over to Brazil?

Hello, Adam - I responded to your PM with the test results over a week ago and have had no response.

I tried watching an HD movie again this morning, and I am getting the same result - it plays for about one minute or so then goes into a buffering mode where it takes HOURS for the HD movie to download.

This is getting VERY frustrating, and unless I can get some help resolving this issue, I am inclined to just give up on the VUDU service entirely.

I'm seeing this same issue. Up until month or so ago, I rarely waited for buffering. When I did, it cleared up quickly. Lately, I've just been giving up on streaming, and waiting for the movie to download. The HD streaming is what sets Vudu apart from other services, so I hope this gets resolved!

Re: HD buffering on Fios with 20Mbps d/l???

I have an LG 390. Just tried to watch a HDX movie on VUDU. I also have verizon fios 20/5 with actiontec router. The LG 390 is a wired connection. No wireless involved.

I got a buffering error and had to watch in HD mode.

What should I do? This should work in HDX mode.

The LG 390 is a wired connection to the router. Same as this pc. this pc has the speed, i.e. > 4.5 MBs. I did the VUDU test and there was plenty of speed.

Some have posted about changing DNS. Can they be more specific on what to change on the LG 390??

                      UPDATE:
I discovered recently that the powerline network adapters I was using were causing the problem. The adapters generated so much latency, that nothing could work through them. Since I ran a cat5 to the Vudu box, the buffering has disappeared, and the service runs fantastic.

I have the DNS settings in my BD390 set for the same addresses as my Internet Provider. So I just use the addresses that show up in my router.

                            Try these:

                            Primary: 4.2.2.2
                            Secondary: 4.2.2.1
