    Powerline (WiFi alternative)

Argh! Stupid ie spell activeX popup just nerfed my whole previous post.

Anyway in a nutshell take a look at theses if you are having WiFi throughput troubles:

My VuDu is on the FedEx truck - I'll report back when I have everything set up.

I just couldn't get 2Mbps throughput via WiFi using repeaters or DD-WRT boosted signal strength. These adapters appear to be working well plug and play right out of the box in my 2K sq. ft. single family house with 60 year old wiring and a 7Mbps cable connection.

Psyched to be part of the VuDu family - I hope this product takes off!

SlingMedia sells the SlingLink Turbo which is a cool device as it has a 4 port hub/switch that goes at the AV center end. So it allows connection of a number of devices.

I think Netgear private labels these for SlingMedia.

FYI: BestBuy is clearing these out right now for $100 - at least at my local store they were.

Its def made by netgear for sling(very similar).. I ended up buying the netgear version to save money... I use the powerline adapter to bridge the upstairs and the basement and have a wi-fi router at each end. I will report that I get about 10mbps downstairs the power line adapter does its job.

          *Update*

Well I got my VuDu box last week and watched Hot Fuzz over the weekend and the powerline plugs worked flawlessly. Quick note: I did have a dead CAT5 cable that came with them which took a while for me to diagnose; they really are (should be) plug and play at least for my house.

Soooo glad I didn't have to spend the weekend fishing wires through attic crawlspaces and destroying my sheet rock.

Tip to VuDu: You guys should think about doing what slingbox does and bundle these powerline adaptors as an option. The average customer wireless network will never be able to do 2MBps for any length of time and I'd guess that upwards of 60-70% of your (future, non-geek) customers won't have their VuDu box next to their modem/router.

Yeah those things work well usually (I recommended that to my inlaws who really aren't tech-savvy at all and they were able to set it up by themselves), but I hear some models can run hot (and die after a few weeks of use), so I'd recommend folks check out reviews before they buy.

Glad it did the trick for you.

I have been trying to get the VUDU guys to come up with bundles of either a wireless client bridge adapter or powerline under one part number depending on what the clients needs would be. I have made this suggestion many times since I seem to be the one that gets all the wireless questions...
