Updated: Vudu comes to Android phones and tablets

    For real this time:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...let&feature=md
    http://www.vudu.com/setup_android.html

Unfortunately, it only current supports tablets with at least ICS (4.0+), but it's a start.

Fixed that for you. No support for the Toshiba Thrive running ICS.

Any movies on your Ultraviolet account (that you own) can be accessed through the Flixster app on the Kindle Fire. You can watch any of your movies with internet access or you can actually download the movie to your Kindle and watch without internet access. Hopes this helps.

Yeah, but what if we like VUDU better? When will VUDU support Kindle Fire HD? I thought I'd heard The Kindle Fire HD was an Android-based tablet & that VUDU has an Android App. Shouldn't, then, logically, the Kindle Fire HD support VUDU, if it supports Android Apps & VUDU has an android app?

Or have I mis-heard? Or is there some technological limitation (artificial or otherwise) that prevents the VUDU app from bring used on a Kindle?

There is an Android tablet app. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but it isn't very good. It is SD only. It doesn't remember your login, so you have to re-login every time. It lacks basic stuff like providing system notifications of download status. Downloads seem extra slow and don't provide much in feedback besides a very tiny progress bar. Downloads just randomly stop sometimes. Sometimes you have to relaunch it a couple of times because it wants to play movies in portrait mode. The app doesn't even support portrait mode, yet it sometimes wants to play video in it. I haven't dug into the details of the app, but it seems like just a front-end to a buggy HTML5 site.

Personally, I use the Flixster app even though Vudu is available to me on my Nexus 7.

A friend has Kindle Fire and he really wants to use Vudu, but he can't. Hopefully Vudu will come to Kindle Fire in the future, but who knows if amazon would allow a "competitor" app to run on its device.

The Kindle fire is based on Android, but it is not an open system. The available apps are controlled by Amazon. It does not have native access to the Google Play Store.. Amazon is selling it as media consumption device for its mp3 and online video stores in addition to kindle books, so it may not allow a competing video service like vudu.

It is possible to get access to the play store on the Kindle Fire. You will have to root your device, and then run something called Kindle Free. You will have to do a bit of googling to find out the best way to do this. I don't have a Kindle, so I couldn't test this, but I would look for some of the most recent results on google.

I have an older Logitech Revue which has an android OS. The Vudu app is not available on the Google Play store.

I don't use the Revue much, but it would have been nice not to have to use Flixster on the Revue. Flixster sux

Re: Updated: Vudu comes to Android!

We just released version 1.2.205 which works with your tablet.
Please install and let us know if it works for you.

Sony Xperia, Toshiba Thrive should work now.

If your tablet is still incompatible, please send us back your tablet info: make, model, Android OS version, RAM size.

Regarding Kindle Fire, it's not simple as it's not in Google Play store and subjected to Amazon's rule, and policy.

                            Thanks,
                            LLN

We have fixed a lot of issue regarding stability, download, and playback. The portrait playback is fixed with the latest release.
