Vudu Player 4.0 and iOS 8.1

    Vudu Player 4.0 and iOS 8.1

    Since updating the Vudu app on my iPhone 6 Plus, the app is completely unusable. At first, the app would crash when trying to play downloaded movies. Streaming movies mostly seemed to play ok. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, resulting in losing all 30 of my downloaded movies. I downloaded a couple movies to see how things were. They played ok at first. Now every time I open the Vudu app, it immediately crashes. It will not launch at all. I'm surprised this app wasn't tested first. Lots of people have similar complaints with the latest app, based on reviews they've left at the app store.

      New information:

      I turned on Airplane Mode, and the app launched. Most movies were marked "Waiting." I was able to play a movie that was already downloaded. The app couldn't stream or download, obviously. I had access to Control Center off from inside apps. Successive attempts in launching Vudu crashed, I think with Airplane mode off. I turned access to Control Center back on for inside apps. Now it seems to work somewhat, maybe, I don't know. Maybe the programmers can figure it out.

        I stopped downloading movies to do other things with my phone. I went back to the Vudu app, and it crashes at launch again. I don't believe I've ever seen an app perform as badly as this app.

          I turned cellular data back on for data, which I want to have off. Too much risk using gigs of data when I only want to use wifi, never cellular, for Vudu. The app did launch, but the movies I've downloaded so far have all disappeared. It's s shame I have to give one star for the app. I think you owe me a few stars.

            I'm convinced that Vudu doesn't like to have cellular data shut off for the Vudu app. I really hope you guys find a fix.

              I selected one movie to download, and the app crashed. Now every time I launch the app, it crashes.

                The app does open away from home. I wonder if it's worth mentioning that I have a Microcell (and wifi) at home.

                  I just installed the newly released app. It won't launch either, unless I'm in Airplane Mode. Yes, I rebooted my phone.

                    Is it possible that your app doesn't like to be closed in the middle of downloading a movie, so I can use another app? I'm just trying to help you help me. Your app will no longer launch. It's just a doorstop now.

                      Is there another company whose app I can use to watch my UV movies? A company who knows how to program an app that works, or at the very least, a company who will acknowledge the additional information I'm trying to provide?

                        Just in case someone is reading, the app will launch if I'm in Airplane mode. When I shut off airplane mode, there is a Vudu app window that says Network Connection Lost, at which time the app crashes to desktop.

                          Here is some more information to be unacknowledged. Last night I tagged about 30 movies to download. Several downloads completed. The rest have been showing as waiting. I just put my phone in Airplane mode. I launched the app, and now the movies that had downloaded are gone. Only 4 movies (instead of the expected 15-20) are showing to be queued for download. Why is the app deleting my movies?? Chirp, chirp.

                            I deleted the movies that are waiting for download, and turned off Airplane mode. I got the same window saying Network connection lost. I clicked OK, and the app didn't crash like it usually does. It was functioning normally at that point. My next test, since I'm trying to fix the app without help from Vudu, is to determine if the app doesn't like to be closed when it has pending downloads.

                              I downloaded one movie completely. The app is still functioning as Vudu intended it to function. I'm now downloading a second movie. It'll take forever to download 30 movies this way. I'd much rather tag them all for download, and let it go over a period of a couple nights.
