    HTML5 Web Playback?

Are there any plans in the foreseeable future to switch web playback to HTML5-based rather than flash-based?

The major reason I ask is that other streaming services such as Netflix provide playback via HTML5 which in turn allows them to support Linux via the Google Chrome web browser due to Chrome supporting Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) and a high enough version of Network Security Services (NSS) for many recent Linux distributions.

Currently, in order to play a VUDU movie on my Linux desktop, I have to setup a virtual Windows environment and even then I can only play a movie in SD quality. My Linux desktop itself should have the capabilities to play VUDU movies from a technical standpoint (high enough specs, HDMI-connected monitor, etc) but I'm hampered due to the fact that VUDU doesn't understand how to properly engage the necessary DRM on Linux. It's my understanding that using the EME framework should work across multiple platforms (including Linux), so switching to this method vs flash would make this work for more people thus widening the user base while still maintaining the DRM necessary to placate the content owners.

Is anyone from VUDU actually looking into this?

This is a valid question. There are a lot of us Linux users out there. Making the switch will expand your user base and will probably not even be noticeable to your Windows & Mac users.

Yes, HTML5 playback is exactly what I need too. I'm glad to see a thread here on this topic. I run Kubuntu (Linux, KDE) and my PC is connected to my HD TV. So HTML5 playback would be perfect!

Unfortunately for me, my DVD box quit working. That was how I watched Vudo so far. Now I have no way to watch Vudu. (Fortunately, I can watch Netflix this way, thanks to their support for HTML5 playback on Linux.) Therefore, until you implement HTML5 playback, Vudu won't be earning any more of my entertainment dollars. I'll miss you :-(

Another Linux user here that would love to be able to watch my VUDU collection.
