There's a few things that VUDU needs to do to be successful in my eyes.
1: True High Def... Talking atleast same quality as Blu Ray or HDDVD, actually utilize my HD TVs picture quality limitations. Not DVD upscaling which no matter what anyone says there's no actual noticeable picture difference when using DVD upscaling. Whether or not it can provide that will be a major deciding factor when determining whether or not I go with one of those players or just get the VUDU player.
2: Available titles... I don't want the HD vs. BluRay problem where I need to purchase both units just to get the movie titles I like. (probably one of the biggest issues that really nobody has much control over but nonetheless)
3: No unnecessary advertising. I don't want 30 minutes of "womens feminine product" commercials plagueing my movie that I just purchased.
4: Absolutely no cueing of movies when "renting" them. I don't want a blockbuster online or netflix experience where I want to watch a movie but I have to wait for days or even hours just to get it. (If it's waiting for the movie to download to the VUDU unit that's another thing). I don't want to wait due to capacity issues on VUDU's end.
My last opinion (and that is what this entire email is, one man's uneducated opinion). When "purchasing" movies, are you simply purchasing the right to watch that movie at anytime w/o recurring rental costs? Otherwise I don't see how it's possible to download a high definition movie onto the meager 250 gig hard drive without waiting forever for your download?
The thing that makes IPod's so much fun is the fact that you have a ridiculous amount of space so you find yourself just downloading a million songs to say "I have 23,456 songs" even though you only listen to 80 of them. People will want to download as many movie titles as possible. So my other issue of where is your "purchased" movie stored, the 250 gig hard drive? There better be a way to attach an external hard drive or your computer to store some of the movies. Those people who want to download titles just to have them will fill up that VUDU drive pretty quickly if the high definition movies you purchase are the same file size as on Blu Ray or HDDVD.
