Re: New Vudu Users Check in Here!

I guess this is where I should have posted first, but I already have a few posts under my belt

I've had my Vudu for 5 or 6 weeks. I'm like many others on this thread, I want more rental content and I want it when DVDs are available. I actually did nuke Netflix. Unfortunately I still use RedBox when I need an immediate fix on a movie. Latest example, Superbad, rented it at a RedBox on tuesday, the day it came out for a buck oh seven. I'm willing to pay more for the convenience of flipping to the Vudu input on my display clicking "rent."

I won't bother to post on the wish list about the media adapter functionality I'd love to see (even if it was limited to H.264 only) because I'm one of those non-typical people that have Cat 5e running a Gigabit Ethernet network throughout my house. I have 3 and likely soon to be 4 HD displays used for TV type stuff (26" 720p, 37" 1080p and 47" 1080p). I use a 20Gb PS3 for Bluray content and the occasional game.

What do you mean, doesn't everybody have at least 4 CAT5e drops in every room? That's the first thing I add to each house I have purchased.

Re: New Vudu Users Check in Here!

I'm a new member on this forum and I have a (probably stupid) question, but I'm going to ask anyway. Why are the 'first' pages, the most recent posts and the 'last' pages, the oldest ones? It seems bass-akwards since I'm used to the AVS forum. Is there some setting that I have to change, or do I just have to get used to scrolling from back to front and bottom to top?

Now on to some 'real' questions---I am looking at Vudu as an alternative to purchasing BR( I've owned HD-DVD for over a year). At this point in time, is the Bourne Trilogy the only HD available? Does the Vudu HD PQ match the PQ of Bluray and HD-DVD?? Thanks

You can go into UserCP and change the sort order of the fourm to newest first.

Yes the picture quality of Bourne is on par with HD-DVD. I even thought the standard def 300 on the VUDU was great when compaired to my HD-DVD 300. What size panel are you displaying your HD content on?

Re: New Vudu Users Check in Here!

Thanks, I made the user cp changes.

I currently have a Dwin tv3e(maybe upgrading to a Sony vw60 later) projecting on an 88" diag 16x9 screen. That's good to know that the pq is at least similar (if not better). What size are you viewing on?

So Bourne is the only HD so far?

Thats a nice projector....With a large family the best I can do is a 37" LCD. But we are looking, since prices fell, at something between 45 and 50". I am staying away from DLP (rainbow effect) and plasma (power consumption).

Currently Bourne is the only HD content on the VUDU. They haven't announced what HD content will be next but I am really waiting for it. I hope its King Kong or Transformers.

+1 for Transformers in HD! Since I'm currently on the BluRay side of the fence, this would enable me to get one of the best titles to show off a home theater! I rented the DVD and the effects and more so the sound absolutely blew me away!

I need to move the Vudu over to my home theater to hopefully get higher than 720p resolution.

When this Transformers movie came out and my family wanted to see it in the theater, I cringed, remembering taking my little brother (from the Big Brothers program) to see the animated Transformers movie in the mid '80s. I was in agony through that whole movie. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It was actually entertaining. Oh, and Megan Fox wasn't too bad to look at either.

Re: New Vudu Users Check in Here!

Just got my unit in yesterday, and set up was a breeze. At first I couldnt figure out why the picture was "squished" but found the little 480i/480p switch on the back and all is good. Maybe this should be the default setting?

Anyway, the remote is wonderful, as is the interface.

Content? While ok, is a real bummer when you DO find a movie you want to watch and it is only for purchase. Kind of kills the whole concept of not having to use Netflix or go to the video store.

I think in order for this thing to be succesful, they need to A. Make all releases availble for rental and B. Get HD content out there quick.

AppleTV will not be sitting on their butts for too long.
I could be suave, but how many crude guys do you know?

Re: New Vudu Users Check in Here!

480i/480p shouldn't fix any "squish" in the picture as it doesn't change the aspect ratio but changes it from interlaced to progressive scan. 480p will give you a better pic.

Yep, agree on the purchase/rental thing. Hang in there, it is being worked on...Also, you are probably on an old database with a unit right out of the box. Let the database update and a number of those purchase only movies will now be rentable...

The AppleTV is a flop of a product. I have one and it's probably my most disappointing purchase. Apple hasn't updated the software for about 6 months now and it really doesn't do much more than my other digital media players except give me nice photo slide shows and an easy way to view YouTube on my big screen.

I don't think the apple tv is a flop. It does what it was designed to do and does it nicely. It brings everything from itunes over to a tv. I bought mine for the sole purpose of watching my photos on my TV. I was getting tired of having everyone gathered around the computer to view vacation photos. Also if I miss a tv episode I can just download it from itunes and watch it on my tv (except NBC). What it does do that I wish vudu would do is stream movie trailers in high res full screen. I don't like the way vudu puts the trailer in the little box and displays it in such low resolution.

I agree with what you say but from an Apple product standpoint - it is a flop. I have a lot of disappointment w/it:

1.) Inability to browse the photo library by individual pics
2.) Inability to rotate or zoom the pics
3.) Inability to play MPEG-2 files

All of those it could do quite easily. My Roku Photobridge does everything the AppleTV does. Some better, some not as good (the actual slideshows on the AppleTV are better than the Photobridge, but the rest of the Photobridge is better).

The streaming of trailers and TV previews is quite good and yes, I wish Vudu would do that...
