    Availabilty of vudu box

So, I just recently heard about this awesome internet movie provider and wanted to get a vudu box for myself. But I CAN'T because they're out of stock. Customer support has no clue as to when they will have some in stock. Is that anyway to conduct business?

How long have the vudu boxes been out of stock? They're not available at Best Buy either.

Any feedback from long time users or anyone who could shed some light on how long it may be before they're in stock would be appreciated.

I just checked Best Buy and they are in stock.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218008397877

Additionally I checked the inventory at stores near me and came up with 3 that have the VUDU:

W Dundee IL 979 W Main St, West Dundee, IL 60118
Algonquin IL 1561 S Randall Rd, Algonquin, IL 60102
Kildeer IL 20771 N Rand Rd, Kildeer, IL 60047

They may be out of stock at your local BestBuy but you can still go to BestBuy.com and order one.

I remember people saying that the bestbuy.com online store always shows that they are in stock because they ship them directly from Vudu and they don't have any Vudu inventory information. I believe in that case, it lets you place the order and then shortly thereafter sends you an email that they are indeed out of stock. That's my understanding of what was posted and it's a possibility.

If they really are out of stock (except where inventory still exists at physical Best Buy stores), that begins to concern me as it seems to be longer than one would expect if there was just a temporary shortage due to demand.

That's exactly right about Best Buy online. After I ordered the vudu box I received an e-mail stating it's on back order.

I'll give the stores in Illinois a call to see if they're actually in stock. I wonder if I can get them to ship one to me.

Again, how can a business be out of stock for so long and give no explanation other than the ETA is unknown?

I see that the vudu box is now not listed as an available product. That's a good sign.

I am really wondering what's up with this. I hope they become available soon or we at least get some explanation.

If I was in a speculating mode I'd say its either:

              a) a stunt to drive publicity (holding back production to exaggerate current demand) or

              b) they've given up making set top boxes and will be relying on net-connected TVs from here on, or

              c) they plan a new rev of the set boxes and have stopped making the BX100, or

              d) they have really terrible supply chain management and genuinely can't make any more the standard set-top boxes.

Personally, I hope it not 'b'.

                e) They can't pay their bills to their suppliers.

Whatever, the no explanation is inexcusable.

the web site now shows this as purchasable only via best buy. Only accessories appear to be on sale at vudu.com.

I purchased mine on-line from bestbuy.com back in January.

                    Re: Availabilty of vudu box

Well I drove 2 hours to the Best Buy in W Dundee and finally got my vudu box. They had one in stock and only one in stock! Thanks to the "VUDU Evangelist" for locating three stores that do have them in stock and I was luckily not too far from them but the congestion on I90 was brutal due to road construction and it took a lot longer than 2 hours driving back. Oddly enough the two Best Buy stores in Madison where I live are much larger than this store and they have never had any in stock.

Now I just hope vudu stays in business so my player doesn't become a big paperweight. Kinda of difficult to expand your customer base when you basically have to buy specific LG televisions to use their service these days.

Wow you drove 2 hours down from Madison. I usually make Saturday or Sunday drives up there to Cascade with the kids. Also takes me about 2 hours since I only live about 15 minutes from the Dundee BestBuy.

Yes 90 traffic is a bear. That is why I try to avoide the tollway as much as possible...

                      Anyway enjoy your new VUDU.

my guess is they don't want to be a sales channel for their hardware any longer so they are using best buy for the set top boxes. The LG and Mitsubishi HDTV's of course have sales channels of their own.

Sounds fair. I thought we talking about a manufacturing bottle neck however. If the BestBuy stores are now getting stock then I guess not.

They just announced that they are putting the Vudu software in the LG BluRay player. I'm guessing that the traditional Vudu hardware is going to start disappearing now.
