My store was at the forefront of getting Vudu out in customers hands, we were the number one store at Best Buy for Vudu. I don't know the specifics of why we don't push Vudu like before, that doesn't involve me. There isn't really any reps like there used to be to promote it and its a shame. Don't look at the lack of STB's as a bad thing. They are reaching more customers than ever now. We sell so many LG 390's its just crazy.

I own the LG BD390 and I will say from a sales point of view, customers all know and ask about whether a Blu-Ray does Netflix. We have a live BD390 and we demo Vudu but most customers do ask about Netflix due to the all you can watch for $8.95. Its aggressive. I hope Vudu does the same down the road. I love the quality but see myself only renting new movies in HDX, I like the selction better than the few movies available on DirecTV.

Reps from other companies have mentioned talk about Vudu possibly being on their Blu-Rays too. I guess we'll see in a few months.

I enjoy having a physical copy of my movies so I will continuing to buy a hard copy of my media.

I know Vudu plans on intergating their software more. BUT, the STB is an awesome tool. I have no intention of getting a BluRay player. I mean why would I, if I hve a Vudu that does HDX?

That is why Vudu needs to educate and promote more. HDX = BluRay quality

We are at the beginning of the new digital revolution abd Vudu can take the lead.

HDX does not equal BD quality, so why would they say a lie like that. HDX is the second best available. It is very, very good but is by no means BD quality and the audio certainly is not BD quality either.(although HDX is more than good enough for your average movie watcher)

I use my BD player(the LG BD390) more and more. In addition to playing BD titles, it streams from VUDU, Netflix, Youtube and also HD files I have on my network(like old HD shows I recorded in the early 2000's)

The LG BD player is versatile. I don't watch my content from just one provider and the LG player allows me to use one device to get content from several means. I still like my VUDU but it has never been a device I would try to use for 100% of my content.

In addition to the LG BD390 with VUDU I also have three VUDU stand alone boxes I've been using for almost two years.

Another sign of Vudu's health is the fact that i got the BD390 a few days after Vudu was added to it for $220 shipped from Buy's online store, and now it runs close to $300.

Do you only watch a movie once ..... never to see it again ? There are so many BD discs for sale for under $10 now... Why pay $5-$6 to rent when you can buy the BD for slightly more ? For me a BD player + VUDU is a good combo-- use VUDU to watch new movies in HDX and BD player to watch older movies I own

I think this is a bit of an overstatement. I'd say for 97% of people HD is by far good enough for movies. And then going beyond another 2% would still find HDX=BD.

The common person on these forums is NOWHERE near the average movie watcher.

There is a big difference between the HD and the HDX titles. When streaming, it makes it very easy to compare since you can easily switch between them.

I'm not saying there isn't a visible difference or even that it is significant. But I fully assert that for almost all people, the HD quality is more than sufficient and they wouldn't want more.

Even my mother can tell the difference and I would put her in the average category. She is only using a 37" LCD TV and after watching something in HDX everything else to her looks "fuzzy".

Well I have to respectfully disagree. No one in my family will be able to tell the difference without having it pointed out to them. And my point was more, that if they don't know anything else out there is better and it is shown right to them, almost all people would be perfectly happy with HD.

HD is fine but HDX is clearly better. Nearly anyone who sees the two will pick HDX over HD.

There is an exception: computer generated animated movies don't improve nearly as much between SD->HD->HDX.

If you can't tell the difference between the two then you're either almost blind or your TV is not properly outputting a HD signal. There's a reason they say hi-def is the biggest break thru in television technology since color TV.

Now telling the difference between 1080p and 1080i/720p is another story especially on smaller televisions.

Actually the HD encode is easily better than DVD quality. A real DVD looks like crap because it has no detail to the Image. VUDU HD encodes have more detail to it than a DVD does.

VUDU HD is encoded at 720p, DVDs are 480p. You could compare VUDU HD to a broadcast HD signal.

VUDU HD used to be 4mbs 1080P24 encodes. The switch to 720P is a better choice for a 4mbs bitrate.

I understand that but in reality in the real world HDX format still does not quite match blu-ray quality while HD format matches more closely with a DVD than broadcast HD.

I base this opinion on my own set of eyes and reviews of vudu from cnet.com and consumer reports support my opinion.

And regardless of format the content is only as good as the source material and how it was converted. Hence, some blu-ray movies are a rip off as they're no better than a DVD.
