Load while paused on LG BD390?

My DSL line is right on the edge for HDX playback. If I start playing something, then hit pause, will the player continue to load the file? Experiments have been inconclusive, but I've also been impatient.

    Hi Jsabo,

If you hit pause, the file will not continue to download. When you hit play It will begin the downloading where it left off.

Keep in mind that if you're on the cusp of the HDX requirement, fluctuations in network speed can cause it to downgrade to HD. This is especially true if other network devices are using the network the same time as the BD390.

Thanks for the reply-- might be something to consider for future releases, if you can carve out part of that onboard 1GB of free space.

I'm more than willing to let it buffer for 10 minutes if it means smooth 1080 playback...

This is so true. I have a 25Mbps pipeline and if there are 2 or more devices (just idling) on the network I get reloading/buffering. I'm looking for a new router that will allow me to control bandwidth or priority of service by MAC.

I'm pretty sure the 1GB is required to be reserved for BD Live for it to be profile 2.0 compliant.

Any BD Live downloads are stored in it.

Netgear and D-Link both have QoS compatible routers. You need QoS if you have a Vudu. What you need to do is limit both uplink and downlink enough to allow all the overhead packets to get through.

As I speak, I am streaming an HDX movie. I also have a backup of my system going uploading to CrashPlan taking up my 2 Mb/sec of upload. I do this all the time and have zero problems. Oh yeah, I'm also streaming 2 channels of online radio stations in different parts of the house too.

By default VUDU doesn't need QOS enabled. On a BD390 the QOS provides little or no value since the data is being streamed via the CDN vs. peers as in the dedicated VUDU box.

The internal memory is designed for storage only in a Blu-ray profile 2 player. Some players require that a USB device be plugged in to meet the requirement but the BD390 has that memory internally. On the BD390 if you run out of storage internally you can alway ad a USB HD or Thumb drive to give you more storage. Take a look at the settings menu and you'll see the storage utilization there.

Yes, but even with streaming from a CDN, if your upload is swamped by something else for some reason (online backup, other uploads, etc), you will likely experience problems with the download due to the fact that the ACK packets can't get sent quickly enough. Streaming of this sort requires significant resources and QoS is never a bad thing. I wouldn't ever go without it.

I have no problem with my DGL4500 gaming router. With it's gamefuel, it automatically prioritizes video. For instance this weekend I was downloading some torrents and it was maximizing my upload connection at around 16mbs.(download was around 16mbs too using my FIOS 25/15 connection(the connection maxes out at around 26mbs down and 16 mbs up now))
When I went to watch some streaming HDX on my LG BD390 it had zero problems with it. I got three bars.
I have around sixty devices on my network, with many of them always connected to the internet, like my 3 original VUDU boxes.
They cause no problems with streaming HDX to my BD390 with my DGL 4500 router.

RE Qos, i reserve it for my VOIP. 6Mb/190Kb here, the lousy upload
speed needs max settings on my WRT54G Tomato-ed router.

The amount of bandwidth needed for upstream to support download streaming is very small. QOS is fine but again unless your upstream is saturated you really don't need it..

I will admit that my VUDU boxes and BD390 are all set to "low" as my QOS service. That puts the traffic in the same category as bulk transfer and I yet to see the router drop a packet due to congestion.
